Recon! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 12:40 am

Our ministry is having some stress over the new monthly rather than bi-weekly payment schedule. I called the board at NAMB to talk over the issue. We had a big check given and they agreed to put it directly into the bank without waiting any longer.

Also called Blue Cross Blue Shield about some billing issues.
b

Sent a tax letter for a donation one of our supporters had given. For some weird reason the USPS had said they couldn’t deliver it.

Kathy and I met up with Ashley and Jesse in Norcross for lunch. We discussed where the teams will be serving next week.
k

I went by the missions in Norcross to talk with the managers.
l
d

Then to Azalea to work with the kids. Not much going on. That was good because Ash wasn’t feeling well and Jesse went to support the kids who play in the orchestra.
t
d

I was super tired this evening. Came home to rest and catch up on my admin duties.

Enjoyed watching the new episode of Duck Dynasty with Kathy. Those guys crack me up.

As I was going through the pictures I took while in Texas, a name popped in my head from my days in construction. After some research on the web, I found out that he worked at the hospital in Georgetown as a RN. Decided to call the hospital to see if he was working late. He was! What a hoot to connect with old friends forty years later!

Are you smarter than a 2nd grader?

Georgetown, TEXAS!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:56 pm

Saturday, Ashley and I did the briefing for our team from Fellowship Bible Church in Nashville, TN.
a
f

After the briefings, we took them to the Buford Highway Farmers Market.
s
s
They ate a quick lunch and we got them on site to their three locations and showed them where their second sites would be.
s
s

As soon as they were on site, I jumped on the train to go to the airport to catch my flight to Austin, Texas.

I was the preacher for Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas. The building and many of the people were from the original First Baptist Church in Georgetown that my dad, Al Cummins, pastored for over a decade during the 70s.
f
It was the church where I was called into ministry and preached my first sermon more than FORTY years ago.

g
It was really cool to be in that sanctuary after all those years. It was a special time indeed. I also preached in the new sanctuary for the contemporary service.
c
s
As you might imagine, I was extremely wound up!

I stayed a couple of extra days to visit with sponsors from the Worship Place church as well as see friends in the area.
m
My Dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes so I also helped my folks deal with that. Sometimes just being there is enough I reckon.

Enjoyed visiting with my brother Jim and his family.
s

Jim’s daughters and grand daughters are some of my favorites!
o
s
h

I met a new friend named Mark Moss.
m
He used to be the Chief of the fire department in Georgetown. He is also an avid collector of old radios and recording equipment. I found him super interesting and his stuff was incredibly cool.
r
d

I met Mark while visiting the antique tractors next door with my friend Jon Morse. Jon’s dad is David Morse who was like a brother to me in Georgetown while I was in High School.

t
t

I love visiting Georgetown. Always something fun to see. While I was downtown, I happened to catch up with a tour of the historic district. I love architecture. It was super cool to learn more about the city I love. Did you know that Georgetown, Texas is noted as having the finest Victorian commercial district in America? I didn’t.
s
s
d
s
c
I got back into Atlanta Wednesday evening around midnight. I’ve started parking my car at FBC Doraville and using the MARTA train rather than driving to the airport. Saves money and only takes me a couple of hours longer.

Beautiful Texas sunsets!

I took this picture of the moon through my Nikon binoculars.

Taxes! Marietta! Run!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:58 pm

Finished editing the video I shot for the Virginia Tech team.
e

Processed the video and edited a sound track. Then posted it to YouTube.

I cleaned up an old bird bath to replace one I was using. The freezing weather cracked the concrete so it would no longer hold water.
w

My other bird bath is made out of metal. Seems to be better.
bb

Worked on the final version of my taxes and got it to tax people to file.
t

Picked up Jesse at Azalea than went to Marietta.
j
At Azalea I saw some older Muslim men carrying a model of a mosque. I thought it was cool looking.
m

We enjoyed a fun lunch at Sabor do Brazil.
s
I love Marietta because I often meet Kenyans there. Today was no exception. I saw three people sitting at a table and told Jesse, “I bet they’re Kenyans.” Sure enough, I sat at the table next to them and clearly heard them speaking Swahili. They sure were surprised when I introduced myself in Swahili! Fun.

Plus the food is awesome.

Then went to Columns at Bentley Manor to sign the new lease for the mission.
c
Unfortunately, they didn’t put in the compensation so that the apartment is free. I’ll have to go back when they get that straightened out. Oh, well.

J and I went to an antique store and a magic shop on the square for a few minutes.
a
I thought this EKG machine was cool.
k
Then back to Chamblee. Traffic was horrible. Welcome to Atlanta. We took lots of back routes, but everything tends to be bad on Fridays.

Made a new set of house keys. There’s been six burglaries since the first of the year in the subdivision next to ours and in ours. That’s not zesty. Little extra security is always a good idea.

Came home to run 5.02 miles. Beautiful and cool.
t
I like what they’re doing to the river area. Can’t wait to see how it looks when the water is let back in.
w

Lovely sunset.
s
s
Beautiful moon.
m

Packed up my stuff to go to Austin, Texas tomorrow.

Then enjoyed watching Suits and Elementary with Kathy this evening. I’ll miss her while I’m gone. I’ll be back in town Wednesday evening. Looking forward to preaching there and seeing friends.

I liked this license plate.

VA Tech! Plaza Fiesta! Global Mall! Madina! Azalea!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:39 pm

GREAT to have our team from Virginia Tech in town!
t
They’re always one of my favorite teams.
d
Ashley and I gave them briefings on Catholicism, Islam and Hinduism.
a
t

The girls all wore the pants they bought yesterday!
s

Then we had our final prayer time and commissioning which includes signing Jesus’ landing pad when he comes back.
s

Ash and I took them to Plaza Fiesta to check out the wonders of the Latino culture.
a

Jesus photo bombed these kids.\
j
Then to Madina to check out the N. African and Middle Eastern culture.
m
g

Ended up at Global Mall with a visit to the Hindu temple.
g

l

Spent a great afternoon with the kids at the mission.
d
k
j
d
v
Always sad to see my teams leave.
t
t

We’ve prepared for the next team coming in on Saturday. I’ll be here to get them started than head to Texas that afternoon. I’ll be speaking at Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown.

I’m really looking forward to the trip, but I have to admit I’m conflicted about it. I hate to leave Ashley working wit the team all on her own. It’s a lot to handle.

I’m sure she’ll do great. Jesse and Kathy will also be helping, but it’s not like having good ol’ Dad there.

Run! VA Tech!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:00 pm

Had a good run this morning.
t
I biked 1.54 miles and ran 4.43 miles. It was gorgeous outside. I always love the beautiful flowers and the unusual things I see.
t
d
d
s
x
b
f

Ran some really steep hills. It was a lot worse than this picture!
h

At least I didn’t do this!
f

We had a great time with our team from Virginia Tech!
v

Ashley and I always enjoy giving our briefing.
a
t

We had fun taking them to the Buford Highway Farmers Market.

They did a great job working with the kids at the missions.

h

They did a great job telling about Palm Sunday.
p
s

We always have fun with the kids. Even when they’re shy.

s

Superb to work with my kids every day!
s

Admin duties now.

Kathy and I enjoyed watching David Blaine Magic shows this evening. He’s a trip.

Podcast! A&J! Bank! Set Up! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:14 pm

Enjoyed recording a new podcast today!
t
One of my best efforts about something I need to hear. It’s important to “KILL Fear!”
p

Ashley and I went to the bank to work on setting up a line of credit for our ministry. With our payroll being shifted from every two weeks to once a month, we want to make sure we’re not caught short on funds.

We picked up Jesse at Azalea and did a recon of the locations where we’ll have teams this week.

Always great to see our manager friends. There almost always new managers to meet. Lot of turn over in this industry.
c

Then over to Azalea to help the kids with their homework.
k
j

I appreciate it when the kids take the garbage out for me.
p

I liked watching Ashley help the kids with their shadow projects.
a
a

Jesse and I went to watch the Chamblee High School soccer team play Dunwoody. It was fun watching our friends Mustak and Clinton play!
m

Came home to watch the Kardashians. Yes, I watch that show.

Admin duties now.

I liked the print on one of the manager’s blouses. Interesting design.
s
Many of you know that I’m a bird guy. I saw one fly on my window sill yesterday. I thought that was interesting. Well, seems like they’re enjoying my desk too. What!?
b

I thought this was odd. “Sin” is the Spanish word for “without.” FYI.

DST! J! Run!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:46 pm

Daylight Savings Time! HOORAY! I love it being light later.

Hard getting up though.

Cleaned the glass doors in the house.
g

Enjoyed a fun lunch with Jesse and Kathy!
j

Came home to visit with them and sit outside with the dog. She just hid a treasure in the dirt. That’s why her nose is red clay colored.
r

Watched a really interesting documentary on the Great Pyramid of Giza. I was fascinated by the complicated math of the pyramid and the constant reference to the use of Phi and Pi–knowledge they weren’t even supposed to have. There were several things I haven’t heard before. One of the most surprising was that the major megalithic structures in the world, including Easter Island, Machu Pichu, Cuzco, Nazca, the Great Pyramid at Giza, and Angkor Wat are in almost a completely straight line around the planet. Fascinating.

Went for a 6.56 mile run today. That’s a long way. Felt great while I did it. Been getting nauseated after so much effort. Gotta think moderation. I saw this sticker while I was running.
d
My favorite quote is, “My sport is your sport’s punishment.”

Long, steep hills.
s
I ran down roads I’ve never been down before, even though I’ve passed them thousands of times. Interesting.

Been listening to audio books while I run. Sure makes the time go by!
t

Wonderful spring trees!
t
w
s
t
w
t
Unusual dried plant. Super light. Looks kind of like a mushroom, but I’ve never seen something like this before.
x

I’ve found lots of things on the ground while I run. These are fuses I think.
s
I also found someone’s debit card. Amazing what you see when you’re always looking.

I reckon he’s a grown up now.
s
I love camellias.
c

I wonder if mom let’s them play in the street?
b

I thought the light on these reminded me of Tybee Island.
t
This looked like something my grandfather would make.
g
I’m always struck by how similar cracks in the asphalt look like lighting strikes.
l

K and I watched a great movie called, “Unfinished Song.” Really powerful movie about older folks singing in a choir. I always get choked up by fathers and sons reconciling in the face of hardships. Highly recommended.

Had fun watching the Mentalist with Kathy this evening. I like that they’re situated in Texas now. Groovy, baby.

Big week coming up including our first Spring Break teams and headed to Texas on Saturday to preach at Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas.

Carpet! Shopping! Repairs!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:20 pm

I cleaned the carpet today. I’m glad the weather is warming up so our dog can stay outside more.
s
c

Looks like the carpet needed it.
d

I have to take it apart and clean it before taking it back to Lowes. Costs about $25.00.
c

Went to Sports Authority to get me some new socks. It’s unbelievable how picky I can be about stuff.
s

I went through my drawers and took out all the ones I didn’t like.
s

Also found a bunch of wash rags and towels in one of the drawers.

Did a temporary repair to the ceiling where some water had leaked in.
s
Eventually, I’ll replace it with sheet rock. But bottom line, my wife doesn’t care about it at all so it’s hardly a priority.

Scrubbed the top of our stove. Believe it or not, I have to use charcoal lighter fluid to cut that stuff.
s
s

Did the grocery shopping. Here’s the last of the stuff to put up.
g
Picked up a tire pump for Kathy.
d

Enjoyed watching the Middle with K and a show on Stonehenge. I’ve been there twice.

Admin duties now.

Tire! Cleaning! J!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:23 pm

We had about 1/2″ of rain last night.
r

Got woken up early this morning by Kathy. She told me she had a flat tire and was checking if it was ok to use my car today. No problem.

Later, I walked to where she had left the car and pumped it up with my portable compressor. If you don’t have one of these I highly recommend getting one. They’re great for pumping up bike tires as well as your car tire.
t
So when I get a flat, I never take off the tire and put on spare. I merely pump the flat tire back up and take it to my tire guys to fix properly. I’d say 90% of the time the tire pumps up just fine. If there’s a blow out, it’s time to call AAA.

Jesse came by after I got home.
j
I enjoyed taking him out to eat. We went by Goodwill to check on clothes then came on home.

I got my new vacuum and cleaned the house and mopped the floors.
s

Gathered up and took out the garbage.
g

Also fixed one of the door knobs. I’ve had a couple lately that needed tweaking.
d

Then went for a 5.20 mile run. I ran harder than I have in a LONG time. Still not fast, but five miles is a long way.

Enjoyed watching Elementary with Kathy. Working on admin duties now while she gets supper together. I’m feeling a touch nauseated. I hope I don’t have a repeat of the barfing experience I had a couple of days ago.

I liked this poster I saw at Zaxby’s today.
z

Never too much 3 Stooges.
s

I always get in trouble for this.
