It's Wednesday afternoon, I got in my car headed for the mission. I cranked it. Cranked it again. Nothing. This is strange. Why won't my car start? I waited a little bit. Tried it again. She starts up this time! Praise the Lord! I'm driving down Memorial Highway and suddenly out from the side of the highway five young black guys all dressed in black, downy Fubu jackets run into the middle of traffic. I stomped on my brakes and watched as these guys stopped traffic and ran across the highway. Then two police cars raced towards me from the other direction. Darting through the traffic, we pulled off to the side rushing to get out of the madness. As I got closer to the mission, two more cop cars, lights flashing furiously, passed me. I watched curiously in my rear view mirror wishing I could see more of the action. Just another day driving to work!.
When something bad like this happen I always wonder, "Is this spiritual warfare?" My next thought is something good's probably going to happen and the devil's trying to stop it, so I better get through this and let the miracles happen. Sure enough when I got to work my kids ran up to me showing off their new ribbons they'd won at school. Most had perfect attendance, were on the honor roll and principal's list! Congratulations guys! I'm so proud of y'all! I beamed, feeling like the very proud parent of twenty kids.
Later at home, I started to think about why my car didn't start. Was it because we're starting to see the impact on the kids? I think so. We're affecting their study habits and education—-next step is their spiritual life! Please pray for my safety traveling to and from work and that the work being done at the mission continues to keep going strong!
A great new change has happened this new year! As you know, I've been working with my friends as Youth Outreach United. I want to thank them for supporting me. The more I talked with my Dad, however, the more I realized that his goals were exactly like mine. I feel called to work at the mission full time, leading kids to Christ! Dad is my role model and I was very excited when his board asked me to come to work at Whirlwind Missions! I'm very fortunate to have Tim Cummins as my dad and feel I should take full advantage of working beside him and learning all that he has to teach me as a daughter and young missionary. I'm so called to working with people! I know this is a positive step in fulfilling my goals. My supervisor at Youth Outreach United has promised to forward the rest of the donations from last year on to Whirlwind Missions. THANKS, Youth Outreach United! I love you guys!
Thank you for your prayers and support. Knowing that you have my back pushes me to do better and reach more people for Jesus!
Love,
Ashley
