K and I try and get away for a long weekend a month.

Doesn’t always work out that way, but it’s something we always look forward to.<\/p>\n

Decided to try Dahlonega this weekend. We’re looking for places even closer to home. It’s about 65 miles from my house. Not too bad!<\/p>\n

Went into the Consolidated Gold Mine.\"c\"
\n\"t\"<\/p>\n

The soil has a lot of iron. That’s what gives it the rust color.
\n\"r\"<\/p>\n

Down 250 feet.
\n\"s\"<\/p>\n

In one day they pulled 54 lbs 9 oz of gold out of this mine! It was the largest vein of gold ever seen. The gold is found in quartz veins like this one. A normal size line is about the width of your finger. A large vein is the size of your hand. In this mine, the vein was 24 feet wide!

\n\"g\"<\/p>\n

Believe it or not they used children to scamper through the mine shafts to let the miner know when they were getting ready to blow up the tnt. I reckon that made them minor miners.<\/p>\n

They had a scarecrow competition.

\nLoved the lighting on the old buildings.
\n\"s\"

Had a rainy Saturday. Enjoyed a restful day and some delicious food.

\n Smith House was great.

Kathy’s bike got a flat. Bad luck. We still got one good ride out of her!<\/p>\n

I liked the view from our hotel.
