Podcast! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:29 pm

Had fun recording a new podcast this morning!
s

One of the darker episodes of Verbal Surgery today.
s

At any time it could “All be gone!” Seeing the world through the lenses of what could be and helping us cherish the NOW. It’s worth thirty minutes of your time. Just click on the title and GROOVE.

Mailed a small packet to our friends in England. Ashley is so creative! She put some really cool stuff together for them.
s

Went to T&G to pay off the Altima. Little over $1,600. Yow. I’m sure Jesse is going to love the changes.

Enjoyed working at the mission with the kids.
s

Went to the church with Jhoan to get my portable tents. Apparently, someone either broke them, stole them or threw them away. Oh, well. I never thought they were very practical. Better just to sit under the trees.

Run! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:32 pm

Surprisingly cool this morning, in the 50s.

Went for a 5.09 mile run. Always something beautiful to see.
s
s
s
s

Ate lunch with Jesse and Kathy.

Got word that the Altima that J drives is going to take about $1,600 to fix. Ouch.

Rested after lunch then went to the mission to work with the kids.
s
s

We have a mom that brings her two little girls on Wednesdays. Our girls love ’em.
d

Took Jesse for some grocery shopping on my way home.

K and I watched Key and Peele and Anthony Bourdain this evening.

Rain! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:32 pm

Rained 2.75″ last night and today. Wow.
s
Dreary all day long.
s

Worked on admin duties. My computer got some malware on it. Had to run some programs to get rid of it. Sure am glad it worked.

Cleaned the fish tank while I waited for the malware software.
s

Ate lunch with Ashley and Kathy.
s
They went to the Women on Mission group at Smokerise Baptist Church.

Worked with the kids at the mission.
s
Very light day. Seems like whenever it’s rainy the kids stay inside. Even if it’s not raining when we’re there.

Jesse was teaching about piezo electronics.
s

When you hit the little ceramic center, it creates electricity which lights up the little led bulb.
s

Took Jesse’s car in to get worked on. He had some mirror damage.

Jet Lag! Run!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:52 am

Jet lag is always worse coming home. I’ve been going to sleep around 8:30pm or 10pm and getting up around 5am. Makes for weird days.

Powerful clouds in the area. Monday night big storm.
s
Interesting Cirro Stratus clouds.
s
s
I love the colors.
s
s

I took my Venus Fly Traps outside. They need to start going dormant now.
s

Went for a 5.05 mile run on Sunday. Always beautiful.
x
s
s
s

Nice rest on Columbus Day. Did the shopping at Walmart. Not even Halloween yet and already with the white trees.
s

When I picked up my car from Azalea after my UK trip, it wouldn’t start at all. Completely dead. Jumped it off and took it home just fine. The next morning, again completely dead.

Took it over to T and G to work on. They completely took the dash apart looking for the problem. John spent all morning working on it.

He noticed that there was an extra draw on the battery every time he closed the door, which is the exact opposite of what should happen when all the indoor lights come on.
s
s
He finally figured out that I had a coke can pushing against the car seat motor button. It pushed it whenever the door was closed. Bizarre.

Still trying to get my days and nights straight after the trip. Getting better!

I wonder where this was from?
s

I like this. Don’t you?

UK! Wedding!

Tim A. Cummins @ 6:36 am

Ashley and I just returned from the UK!
s

I was part of a friend of mine’s wedding! We got up at sunrise.
s
My friend Amit’s dad is from Kericho, near where I’m from in Kenya. I thought that was amazing.
s
s
I liked the releasing of the doves.
s
My friend Anthony was the best man. We were up all night writing his speech. Turned out great.
s
s
Beautiful location out in the country.
s

Great to see my buddies again.
s
The girls had a good time at the wedding. They were the hit of the party.
s

It was fun staying with the Jacquin family! They’ve become close friends.
s

Ashley got to live her dream and ride horses every day.
s
My friend Anthony’s wife Kat loves horses as much as Ash!
s
s
s

I’m always stunned by the beauty of England and how much it reminds me of the Rift Valley of Kenya.
s
s
s

s

Full moon while I was there. Woot!
s
s
s
Ever seen Romanesque Broccoli?
s
Tasted great!

Fabulous rainbows while we were there. It would rain heavily, then clear off.
s

I was invited to be on a radio show on the BBC!
s
s
s

I talked about how I saw Derby’s culture from an American point of view. Did you know that the world’s first factory was in Derby, England?
s
I’m standing on the spot where Ben Franklin examined the silk mill.
s

We worked on Anthony’s upcoming trip to India.
s

We stayed at Sutton on the Hill. It was chill.
s
s
s

Went to an underground venue with spoken word performances. It was held in the building where the first time piece was made that wasn’t affected by the rise of fall of a ship on the ocean. This discovery revolutionized ocean travel because then they could ascertain the latitude of the craft.
s

They had a fire breather, too.
s

It was cool. My buddy Anthony did some mindreading for the crowd.
s

We toured the city. Beautiful cathedral.
s
s
s
They had a folk festival that weekend.
z
s
s

We visited an abbey nearly 1,000 years old.
s

The Jacquin’s took us to the Chatsworth estate.
s
s
It reminded me of Downton Abbey. I enjoyed discovering the gardens.
s
s
s
s
s
s

s
s
s
s

This was the first time I did not go to London. I sure made the right choice staying in Derby. Staying with a family is just more fun.
s

We got back home sound and safe.
s

I met some guys in the airport in Amsterdam who recognized me from FaceBook. He wants to work with us in the International Village.
s

And on the Marta back to Chamblee I also saw a supporter of ours from Roswell United Methodist Church. The chance of that happening is amazing to me. It’s a Jesus Thing.

Already settled back in. Fortunately, Ash and I can keep up with our email even in the UK. So we never really get behind. Had a good talk from a church in Texas we’ve worked with. Summer is already looking up.

Ashley is a wonderful travel partner! Never too much Ashley!

Podcast! Plants! Prep! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:33 pm

Recorded a new podcast this morning! Always one of my favorite things!
s

I love this edition called “Heart Charger!” Fire yourself up with this high powered edition! Just click on the title and GROOVE!

Gathering all the things I’m taking to the UK on Wednesday.
s
Cleaned out my bubble wands. I’ll take them with me.
s

Cleaned my fish tank. I added new gravel to the bottom. It’ll be easier to clean than the sand.

Worked outside. Always something interesting to see.

s
Took my palms outside.
s

Put my plants from Tybee into soil.
s
They look happy.
s

My Plumeria cutting from Hawaii came in today! Amazon is amazing. I put her in the soil.
s

Paid all the bills.
s

Had fun working at the mission with the kids.
s
s
Had supper with Miles and Ashley at Thai of Norcross. We took them out for Miles’ birthday! Jesse came later. He was at a science meet up at Georgia Tech.

Came home to finish packing. Print boarding passes.

Unusually distinct con trails.

Podcast! T&K! Tybee! Savannah!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:19 pm

s
Thursday morning I recorded a new podcast!

s
I love this edition on the character that we play in this reality. Check out “The Show!”

Kathy and I had a fun TK weekend! She loves being on the road!
k

Loaded up the car with the bikes. They play an integral role in our trips. I love exploring a city by bike.
s
Our ultimate destination on our weekends is Tybee Island/Savannah. We enjoy going when there are not too many people. Plus a lot cheaper. It was supposed to rain the whole time. Not a drop until this morning. It was overcast, which is fine by me.

Beautiful sunset as we left Atlanta.

s

Yeah, baby!
s

I really enjoyed shooting the plants and flowers in Tybee and Savannah. Especially with the Super Vivid filter on.
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
z
s
s
s

A city of pirates.
x

The lighthouse is a must do.
s
s

The beach is always beautiful.
s
z
s

I rode 20 miles one day. We were pooped.
s

The monochrome filter also gave interesting effects.
s

I collected some small succulents on my trip. I felt like Darwin.
s

Lots of cicadas this weekend.
s

It has been damp and rainy. Mushrooms!
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
s

Of all sizes.
s
s
s

Bonaventure cemetery is always a high point of my trip.
s
s
s
s
Exquisite carvings.
s
s
s
s
s
I always go and clean up my grave. This time someone had put a pink bunny behind the headstone!
s
And the lawn guys are taking care of it, too. Funny.

The site is near the very southern edge of the cemetery. I often find old flowers that have been thrown away. I wash them off and put them up.
d
I also found this old bottle when I was picking up flowers.
s

It also has a view to the river.
s
Kathy likes to sit here and watch the boats.

I love reading the Hebrew inscriptions. Or pretending to.
a

My favorite mode of transportation.
s

Beauty.
s
s
s

We rode 12 miles on this Tybee RR trail.
s

It was overcast and an easy ride for me. I practiced riding my bike with no hands nearly the whole way.
z
s
s
s
s
d

I’m enjoying playing with the filters. Even monochrome has it’s place.
s
s
The road was washed away in a couple of places. I had to hike the last half mile on foot.
s

I like the prayer flags.
a
s
z
s
s
Always something interesting to see.
s

I enjoyed visiting River Street. I park my car and ride my bike up and down the streets in the historic district.
s
s
Amazing trees!
s
s
s
s

I remember when they covered the cobblestones with dirt and shot the parade scene for the movie Glory.
s
I always visit St. John the Baptist Cathedral. It’s my favorite.
s
s
They’ve done a recent renovation. More beautiful than ever.
s
x
Magnificent stained glass.
s
s
s
s
s

I visited the old WTOC TV11 building. Many good memories there.
s
SCAD took the building over. It’s called Keyes Hall now. It’s an admin building.
s

Did you know I have nine Associated Press awards for my work in news?

I actually started wearing the map jacket this weekend. Cooling off!

Olga! Ashley! UK! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:38 pm

On Tuesday, Ashley and I met with Olga Williams from Jamaica. She is the director of one of our missions in Duluth, The Falls.
s

We’re trying to help her raise up volunteers and get her funding.

Went by Global Mall to check on supplies for our trip to the UK.
s

Worked with the kids at the mission.
s

I liked this picture Kathen drew.
s

Ate supper with Jesse.

Got home late. K was super tired. Didn’t get much time with her. I was tired, too. Went on to sleep.

Wednesday morning I went for a 5.29 mile run.
x

Always something beautiful to see.
s
s
x
s
x
x

They had a fire at this house. They’re getting a whole new roof.
s

Hmmmm.
s

Loved the high altitude cirrus clouds.
s
s

There is a HUGE difference in running five miles when it’s in the 70’s and when it’s in the 90’s! I got home and still felt fine. Planted 24 tulip bulbs. Never planted bulbs before.
s
s
I planted them in three different areas of my yard. These are near the mail box.
s

Had fun with Ashley, Jesse and Miles today. We went for a late lunch at Plaza Fiesta.
s
I thought Miles looked great in the wrestler mask.
s
s
Scary Ashley.
s
I saw these purple bell peppers at the Buford Highway Farmers Market.
s

Then went around the mall looking for small gifts for the Jacquin family that Ashley and I will be staying with in England next week. Hard to believe it’s really next week.

Worked with the kids at the mission.
s

We had some new volunteers come this week from Perimeter Church. Always fun to have families.
s

Kathy and I watched Naked and Afraid this evening on TV. Man, that’s a rough show. I sure wouldn’t do that. No shoes? No, thanks.

Admin duties now.

Are you smarter than a 1st grader?
s

They are tearing down the old Toyota dealership near my house.
s
I liked the footgear.

UK! Ashley! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:46 pm

Last night I confirmed with my friend in England that his wedding is on October 5th! It’s a good time for me because we don’t have any teams in town that week. And Ashley is going with me! My friend’s wife has horses and rides a lot. Ashley is super interested in that! My friends live on a farm out in the midlands of the UK. Fabulous.

I’m not even going to London this time at all. We won’t be staying very long. I’d rather spend time with my friends than at museums.

Jesse and Mr. Tony can run the mission while we’re gone for a week.

Ashley came over for lunch. Always good to see her!
s

Sugar came by to visit us.
s
She lives at our neighbor’s house now. Lisa is Sugar’s other mother. Sugar still comes by to visit. She’s getting old.

She was originally Ashley’s dog.
s

Worked with the kids at the mission.
s
s
Fun times!
s

Stopped at Walmart to look for rat traps for the mission. We’ve killed two so far. Needless to say, Jesse hasn’t been crazy about having rats crawling around his room. I know the feeling. The same thing happens every winter in my house.

Watched the end of Three Days to Kill with Kathy. Had some funny parts. Kind of overly sappy at times.

Admin duties now.

Beautiful clouds on the way home.
s
Almost looked like it was on fire.
s
Cotton candy.
s
The Duck Commander in Chief.

TV! Writing! Run!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:53 pm

I enjoyed a restful morning. I watched Jeff Lyle from Meadow Church in Lawrenceville, GA. I thought he was quite good. He preached on Elisha from 1 Kings.

Did some creative writing.
s
Posted it to my twitter feed. Believe it or not, my twitter feed is basically my version of sermon notes.

Kathy and I enjoyed brunch together, as we watched Wadjid–a story in Arabic about a young muslim girl who wanted to ride a bike. It was very interesting.

After the movie, I went for a 5.08 mile run. I’m listening to a new book on Audible called The Martian. It’s excellent. It’s about an astronaut that gets stuck on Mars and how he uses his environment to survive. Reminds me of MacGiver.

Always something beautiful to see. I’m enjoying my Super Vivid filter. Pictures really pop.
s
s
s
s
s

I’ve enjoyed seeing the mushrooms.
s

Kathy fixed me supper and we started watching Three Days to Kill with Kevin Costner. Pretty good so far.

Got a wedding invitation from my friend in England.
s
s
s
Trying to figure out the exact dates I would be there. The wedding is October 5th, so there’s not much time to get stuff organized.

Jesse came over to visit us this evening. Never too much Jesse!

Admin duties now.
