Texas! October 13-18, 2016

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:14 pm

My Dad has been in the nursing home in a rehab unit for about a month now. I just got back from Georgetown, TX where my folks live. It’s about 30 miles north of Austin.

The Father told me to hold my Dad’s hand a lot.
k

He’s at the Wesleyan at Scenic. It’s a really good facility that actually smells fresh and clean and has a smiling nursing staff. Wow.

He does a transitions from walker to wheelchair.

k

Plays games to increase dexterity.
k

Had a great time being with my Mom. It’s a challenging time for her. Hard to see our loved ones having struggles. Glad she has Waldo.
k

It was fun to be around my brother, Jim and his family, Kathy and Katie.

k
k

I love the Hunt’s little girls, Harper and Sadie.
k

Harper is my favorite. She’s such a fun kid.
k

She loves nature. I took a picture and taught her about aphids.
;

On Friday, I went to Waco for ComeHoming with the Noble NoZe Brotherhood. I visited Leonard Shoaf’s grave. He was the original Long NoZe.
k
Here’s where he was located.
k
Fun guys to hang out with! We made a $1 donation to Baylor.

I shot The Fleece while I was there.
k

I shot some video too. I’ll edit that soon.

I enjoyed looking at antiques while I was in Georgetown. Found a baby rattle that I liked.

Spoke at Main Street Baptist Church on Sunday. I always enjoy the Seniors!
;
;
I was first called into ministry here.
k
I greeted the kids in the youth group, too.

Had a good lunch with my Mom and Olivia. Two awesome ladies!
;

Cheap gas in Texas.
k

Quite a decoration.
k

I painted my bag gold. Easier to spot.
k

I liked this sticker on David Hunt’s car.
k

Cool.
k

The amazing vistas of Texas! Love the sunsets!

TX Prep! A&P! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:03 pm

Penelope spent the night with Kathy and me last night. Always a blessing. I slept much better than I had the last two times. I just moved her a bit away from me so I could fall asleep. Every couple of hours she’d wake me up to crawl on my shoulder. Sweetness.

Met up with Ashley for lunch. Great to have my girls together!

Got the oil changed in my car.
pp

Tomorrow I will travel to Georgetown, Texas to be with my parents. My Dad hasn’t been doing that well, so I’m looking forward to being with them.

Watered all my plants.
o
l

And the Magnolia and Gardenias.
'
Sorted my vitamins.
;

Packed my bags except for my bathroom stuff.
l

Went by my office to water my Ficus tree and get the mail.
k
k
Went to the mission to work with the kids. Always a good time with Ashley and Penelope in the room!

Had a lot of kids.

Research! Mission! P!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:27 pm

Did the grocery shopping this morning. Most of it was things Jesse.
k

Continued the research project Ashley and I are doing. I’ve picked out the major cities around 400 miles or less from Atlanta. I’ve divided the map into North and South hemispheres. Then I Google “Best churches in Memphis” and do research on each one.
k

It’s pretty easy to factor out churches that wouldn’t come. If you don’t have a web site, you’re probably not going to come. Same for if you lack a youth director. I have found very little interest from Afr/American congregations. If the youth director doesn’t even has his email listed probably not going to come.
k
It seems there’s a certain middle ground. The really big churches often don’t even list their staff which is kind of shocking to me. Same for the lack of email addresses. It’s like they make it difficult to find staff.

So I go through probably 40 of the best churches before I can find ten churches with 1) a web site 2) a youth director 3) with an email address. Wow.

I guess I’m just so social media minded it’s mind blowing to me.

Please pray that many of these churches will choose to come and work with Whirlwind Missions during the Spring break and Summer. We sent out to 50 different prospects today. A few churches have multiple people I sent information to.
k

It’s quite a process. I had to set up a list on our email program called Mail Chimp. Fortunately, Ashley had already done the heavy lifting on the creative part of the letter. She’s wonderful with graphics. She really has an amazing eye.
k
Put together the categories for the spread sheet. Includes: Church, Staff, Tel#, Email, Webpage, address, email sent box and two telephone boxes.
k
I upload the files to Google Drive and then share them with Ashley. We can edit the file. Living in the future, baby.
k

Basically it’s just sales. We make a lot of calls and emails and get people to come. It’s easy to promote. It’s me and Ashley. Equals awesomeness. And that doesn’t even include Penelope.

Worked at the mission with the kids. GREAT to have Ashley and Penelope there.
k
k
We took her outside behind the mission to walk in the grass.
k

Miles is going bowling this evening. So K and I get to watch P for the night. She’s such an angel blessing.

Watched two Australian shows tonight with Kathy. Redfern Now was pretty depressing. We’re watching a detective show set in the 20s that Ashley liked. It’s good.

Admin duties now. Getting psyched up for the all nighter.

This was surprising to me.
k
Why?
k

The moon in A.
k
(Like a treble clef. Notes on a music staff. But you knew that.)

Podcast! A&P! Kudzu!

Tim A. Cummins @ 6:18 pm

Spent this morning RECORDING! Yeah, baby! My last episode was #400!
s
I think this episode is terrific. Examine the world through “It’s like” eyes.

I like where I record: Evergreen Lake
s

Uploaded to my server.
l

Link on Facebook.
o

Made an order for new map jackets. I have to give a donation to OM now.
k
'

I worked on how to approach bringing more teams into town. We still want to have outreach in 100 places. That’s going to take more laborers.

Went over the maps to determine which major cities are within 400 miles of us. Ashley and I will start an email campaign to get many of the churches in those areas to come and work with us.
]
Blew the back deck and driveway.
;l
;
;
Added four pounds of pressure to each of my tires. I kept getting a low tire pressure warning on my dash.
l

Ashley and Penelope joined me for a late lunch. She’s so beautiful.
;
And SO snuggly!

Decatur is a cool place. It was fun walking around downtown. It’s got a hippy vibe to it.
s
Artsy.
s

We went to Butter and Cream for ice cream. Wow. The mint choco chip was amazing.
s

It was really good.
;

P approved!

s
s

On our way home, we stopped at Kudzu Antiques.
;

Ash and I both love looking at old stuff. The weirder the better for us. I’d give this place a solid B. Some pretty interesting booths.

Penelope likes it, too.
k

Came back to Ashley’s house. Miles was just getting home. Good timing on our part.

Back home for Admin work.

Getting the first research started on the church’s contact info.

Interesting clouds showing great upper level turbulence.

Coins! iPhone 7!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:43 pm

I had a good time with Jesse today! I took him to Marietta to the Coin Show they have there.
k
Beautiful.
k

I liked looking at the ancient coins the best.

On my way home, I checked the ATT store to see the iPhone 7. They had one of the models that Jesse wanted, so we got that squared away for him. Greg helped me get my iPhone 6.
k
He did a great job for us today.

J has a lot of phones. He likes all the old tech.
k
Of course he likes the new tech better!
k

Came home to watch an Australian TV series called Redfern Now with Kathy. It’s good.

Admin duties now.

This’ll preach.

Wall! Hummingbirds!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:49 pm

Did chores around the house today.

Cleaned and refilled the hummingbird feeders.
k

I haven’t seen them, but the nectar keeps going down so I reckon at least one of them is around. I keep them out all year long. Wishful thinking.

I moved my Pepper plant to my front yard. She hated being in my dark window.
k

My house is on a mountain. The foundation is still shifting. I get a very thin crack between the blocks because of that.
l
d

It happens so gradually that it’s no big deal.

I work the concrete caulk between the cracks to keep the cold air and water out.
s
s

Blew the leaves off the drive way.
s

And off the back deck.

s

Cleaned the windows in the kitchen and the door.
s

Changed the water in the fish tank.
k
I do it every two weeks. They like to swim around and through all the little holes.
k

Ate a late lunch with K. I always think this sign is funny.
s

Enjoyed resting and playing games later this afternoon. Kathy and I enjoyed watching an Australian series called Redfern on Netflix. You’ll like this one, Ashley.

Admin duties now.

I like the colors.

A&P! Antiques!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:06 pm

I enjoyed watching Penelope this morning! Always fun!

s
s
Ashley had another assignment in Peachtree Corners.

Paid bills.
s

We all three ate lunch together.

Then went to the antique store Once Possessed. They have a lot of cool stuff there. And super cheap.
s
I got this mask for Miles. He loved it.
s

Our best deals were leather boots for Ashley and a Rocket box from the Korean war for me.
s
s

Today was the first full day that Penelope has worn shoes. We practiced walking with me holding her two hands for over an hour. It was fun to let her walk around outside without fear of hurting her tender feet.

Had a fun supper with Jesse. It’s exciting to see him putting his plans for his business in action.
s

Broke out the Map Jacket for the first time this year.
s

Admin duties now.

I love my new Pitcher Plants.
s
s
s

And mums!

Editing! Comcast! Podcast 400! Insurance!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:08 pm

Spent hours Wednesday morning editing the video that I shot with Ashley and Penelope.
s

The hard part was finding the specific shots I needed. I have over 530 videos on line. Way more than that on my computer.

My internet has been horrible. My life is worse without the web.
s
The technician reset the signal amplifier. Seems to work a lot better now.
s

There is also a problem in our neighborhood from time to time.

After I edited the video, I encoded an mp4 version of it to put on YouTube.
s

Blew all the pine cone pieces off the driveway. The squirrels use it as their table.
s
These are not zesty on bare feet.
s
Took the Financial Report to our Treasurer.
s
Went to T&G to get the Expedition repaired. The window sprayer didn’t work.
s

Went to pick up supplies at Lowes. I found three Pitcher Plants that were fantastic. I love the carnivorous plants. I’ve been keeping Venus Fly Traps for nearly 50 years.
s
I also got a set of pots and some potting soil for some plants that needed re-potting.
s
Also bought some concrete sealer DAP. I have a hairline crack in the blocks in my basement.
s

Thursday morning I recorded my 400th episode of Verbal Surgery!
s
Just went over 75,000 downloads. Amazing.

I love this extremely up beat edition called, “Good Penny.” Just click on the title and GROOVE!

Uploaded to my server.
s
s

Link on Facebook.
s
Ate lunch with Kathy and Jesse, Ashley and Penelope.
s
s
s

After lunch we went to Walmart to look for baby shoes and snacks.
s
Walmart had these Venus Fly Traps on sale. Couldn’t resist these little red faced guys.
s

Spent over an hour on the phone with our Health Insurance representative. We finally have Jesse’s health insurance squared away. At least until the end of the year. Everything changes again for 2017.
s

Worked on re-potting some plants.
s
s

I know they’ll be happier, although root shock is always problematic.
s
I hope the squirrels don’t mess with them.

Many of them have been inside.
s
s
They’ll come back inside soon.

Fall beauty!
s

I love my new pepper plants. Gorgeous.
s

Cool spider.
s

I don’t get this name.

Promo! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:17 pm

Ashley and I have been working on a new promo for potential teams.

I made sure I had all the equipment in working order. Checked out the wireless mic, the shotgun mic and the AudioTechnica lavalier mic. The lav worked way better.

Had to get new batteries to make sure it got the best signal.
k
We decided to do the first part of the shoot at China Town’s Serenity Garden. We liked the mural.
k
k
Interesting place!
k

Penelope was her usual awesome self. It was pretty funny shooting as she’s crawling over my shoulders. Never had to deal with that before!
k

After shooting at China Town, we went to Plaza Fiesta, where I shot my stand up.

It was fun letting P play in the cars.
k
k

Went to the mission to help the kids with their homework.
k
k

The city of Doraville tore down the houses near First Baptist, where my office is. They’re expanding the park area for the pool just down the hill.
k

Kathy’s sister, Ann came over to our house tonight. Ann is a nurse.
k
She came to give K a check up. Kathy’s O2 saturation was very low. I emailed our doctor with the information. K will be going in soon for a breathing test. Pray for her lungs and that her tongue will heal properly. She’s had what looks like a big fever blister on the base of her tongue for over six weeks.

We saw the Google Maps car today. Love that program. I knew my whole neighborhood in Jerusalem before I got there.
