Me Day

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:53 am

Every month or so I have a “me day.”  That’s where I get to do the stuff that I like to do.

Yesterday Ashley and I worked on her web site.  I think we’ve got most of the bugs out and are ready to publish to the web.  We still have a couple of small issues to work out, but soon it’ll be up and running!  Check out ashleycummins.org!

I had a good talk with my partner Terry Earl yesterday.  She and her partner Cathy Palmer are doing a great job in Clarkston.  Looks like the Palmers are moving out of Huntington Ridge and over to the Clarkston area to live.  Makes sense with the gas prices like they are.  The Ridge was having real security issues lately.  I’m glad they’re moving into a place where they can feel safe.

Most people think that the really hard areas to serve in missions are all overseas.  When you go overseas, do you know where most people think is the most dangerous place to live?  The USA!  they think everyone has a gun and that it’s like the wild west over here!  Perhaps you think, “That’s crazy, it’s not like that.”  I can take you to areas in Atlanta where the residents hear gun shots every night!  So keep praying for your missionaries right here!

My favorite thing to do on a Me Day is to go to the bookstore.  Currently, I’m studying orchids so I bought a couple of books about them.  Also got a book on folding dollar bills into the shapes of animals.  Origami is another area of interest of mine.  Yesterday I learned out to make an elephant out of a dollar bill!  Looks cool.  It’ll take me a while to memorize how to do it.

I also bought a book called the “Job Almanac.”  It has over 500 jobs you can start yourself.  I got it for Jesse to look through.  I thought it might help him get an idea of what direction his interests lie.  We had a good talk yesterday.  He really does seem to be in better spirits and clearer every day.  He still likes to be alone in his room most of the day.  He says that helps him feel “safe.”  Please keep praying for him.

Jesse, Miles and Ashley had fun playing cards last night.

Bill and Miles are working on the house. They’re repairing some bad boards and replacing three sections of gutter.  They come in white so Miles spent the afternoon painting them white.  I hope they’ll be able to hang them today.

They were able to get most of them hung. Not easy since it’s pretty high up.

Most of the boxes around the house are unpacked.  I spent this morning hanging pictures in the hallway.

They are family pictures and things my mom sent me of my grandparents and great grandparents.  It really does look more like a home with pictures like that up.

Another thing I like to do on a Me Day is go to the gardening sections of Lowes.  I like wandering around and looking at all the beautiful plants, especially after they’ve just been watered.  It’s like being in a tropical rainforest.  Really beautiful.  Yesterday I also bought a new hibiscus plant and a hanging begonia plant.

I usually spend some time every day sitting on my back step looking at the birds and plants and thinking about work and praying for partners and people that have needs.  It’s a time of recharging and peace.

I’m watching the second season of Lost on DVD.  Sure have enjoyed that!

Love you guys!
