Run! Plants! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:22 pm

Had a vigorous 5.00 mile run this morning.

I took Mooglie.
s
It was harder running with her today.
s

She’s still learning how to run with someone. It’s a pretty hard stop when she suddenly want to check her pee mail.

Always something beautiful and interesting to see.
s
s
s
s
s

This mushroom has ridges rather than tubes or gills. First one I’ve seen.
s

Beauty!
s
s
s

I liked these different kinds of Coleus plants.
s
s

Rested after getting cleaned up. Then off to work with the kids at the mission. I was early so I stopped at the Walmart in Tucker to see what plants they had on sale. Some beautiful palms. They were marked down from $25 to $10.50. Just a second ago I noticed that that price was reduced by HALF again. So it cost only $5! I’ll definitely go back and get more tomorrow.
s

This one had a type of small, yellow mushroom growing out of it.
s
s

Enjoyed working at the mission.
s
s
My friend Amit from England called me today on Face Time while I was at the mission. My kids had fun seeing my English friend. He was getting in touch to invite me to his wedding.

I was especially proud of Nishi and Maria and their Clara Barton project.
s

It was Maria’s birthday. Jesse gives the kids candy.
s
Sweet kid.

Ate supper with Jesse. Always good.

K and I watched the end of Last Vegas. I thought it was pretty funny.

Admin duties now.

I saw this caterpillar in the garage. Fantastic.
s
You can tell I just pressure washed the concrete.

Wow.
s

Interesting graphic.
s

Say WHAT?!

Pressure! Church!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:29 pm

Saturday morning I cleaned the fish tank.
s
Gave myself a hair cut.
s
I watered the Venus Fly Traps.
s
Little beauties.
s

Saturday afternoon I spent pressure washing the driveway. It had a lot of stains.
s

I have an attachment that is made for the job. It has two rotating spray nozzles.
s
It was completely dark by the time I finished. I completed the job by night light.
s

Also got rid of the spider webs.
s

Kathy and I went to FBC Doraville on Sunday morning.

s
This is the church where Kathy and I got married.
s

I thought Pastor Bill Kelly did a great job on God supplying our daily needs.
b

The driveway looks better in the day light!
s

I went to Walmart to pick up a couple of more lights and a few small plants.
s

I saw these on the way home.
s
s
s

Everybody on their phones.
d

I read books on the Kindle app on my iPhone. I liked this line from Smarter Than You Think by Clive Thompson.
s

Gardenia from my garden.
s
I thought these tiny mud balls were interesting.
s
Ants make them as they clear their tunnels, especially after it’s been raining.

I bought this little kalanchoe plant from Madagascar. Beauty.

Clean up! Cacti!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:17 pm

Big challenge today. Cleaned up an area of my basement that was mighty dirty. Had to move a ton of stuff.
s
s
Cleaned up the area.

Ate a salad at McDonalds. This Burger King employee was there taking a nap.
s

On the way to Walmart, I noticed these mushrooms on the side of the road. Parked and took pictures. Fabulous.
s
d
n

This type of mushroom does not have gills, they have tubes. It’s one of the signs to indicate that it might be edible. If they have gills, and most do, never think about eating them!
s

These golden yellow colored mushrooms were a few feet away.
s
s
s

Went to Walmart to pick up some supplies. In order to have plants on that table, I needed light. Fortunately, Walmart had lights on sale for $7. Bulbs were cheap, too.

I saw this Red Shouldered Hawk on the way home. Magnificent.
s

Cleaned the floors with the wet dry vac.
s

And with the Swiffer mop.
s

Put everything in order.

s
s

Got cleaned up and ate supper with Kathy.

They had a lift machine in the parking lot. I thought it was cool.
s
s

Lots of warning signs.
s

s

Watched Enders Game. K didn’t like it. I thought it was pretty good.

Admin duties now.

I liked these paragraphs from an article I was reading in Wired about the next generation of Siri type products.

s
And this on intelligence.

Podcast! Run! Mission! Cacti!

Tim A. Cummins @ 12:46 am

I enjoyed recording a new podcast this morning! Woot!
t

I like this edition a lot.
s
If you’ve ever wanted to quit anything, here’s a great place to start. Yummy audio goodness at “Pleasure Muffin!

Ran 4.73 miles today. It was cloudy about half of the time. The other half it was hot.

Took the grandpup with me on the run.
s
After a few minutes, she no longer pulled and did quite well.

Always something beautiful and unusual to see.
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
c

Jesse ate with Kathy for lunch. He came by the house. Always great to see him.

Rested a bit to recover from the run.

Ate a quick sandwich on the way to the mission.

I worked with Nishi and Maria on their Clara Barton project. She founded the American Red Cross. I’m always learning something.

The older kids made cell T-shirts.
k

Made a quick visit to the North family. They are looking great!
s

Ate supper with Jesse. Always lively conversation with him.
s

My new camera (Canon Elph 340HS) has a “creative” option. Every shot it applies seven different filters. I enjoyed shooting my cacti collection with these filters. Some really unusual and beautiful effects.
s
s
s
s
s
x
s

I still love the pure shot without the filters!
s
s
s
s

Orchid are even more beautiful when the color saturation filter is on.
s
s
Spent time reading Smarter Than You Think by Clive Thompson. That book is fun.

I liked this spider web.

Mission! Cacti!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:35 pm

Had a restful morning. Wasn’t feeling well. My stomach hurt and I felt kind of light headed.

Went out for a late lunch. Decided to go to Chic Fil A in honor of Truett Cathy. That and I like their chicken salad sandwich.
s
Met up with my friend Debbi from FBC Mountain Park there.
s
She’s the children’s department director. That church gave us housing when we first got back from Madagascar!

Went to Chamblee early. Checked out the cacti that they have in Walmart. They’ve had a sale on these small succulents. These were $3-4. I thought that was pretty amazing.
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
s
I bought this orchid for Kathy.
s
But it seems like I ended up with it.

Enjoyed working at the mission with the children.
s
I thought this big eraser was funny.
s
s

Came home to spend time with K. We watched the end of Escape Plan with Stallone and Schwarzenegger. I thought it was pretty good.

I got my new Logitech keyboard going this evening. It’s exactly like my old one. I broke a key and had to replace it. It recently got a lot worse.

Admin duties now.

Ashley and I play the Dirty Money Game. Every day, we pick up change off the ground. Whoever finds the most change every day wins. Today I got skunked. I didn’t find anything. But those days are rare.

But I find other things, like this.
s

It’s magnetic.

Mareitta! David! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:16 pm

Ashley and I had a fun day today!
s

We met up at Azalea and drove over to Marietta. We ate lunch with David Tate who is our new regional director for the Marietta, Cobb County area.
d

We went to the Columns at Bentley Manor and Dwell on Franklin apartment complexes to meet with the managers.

After our tours of the property, we dropped David off and went back downtown to walk around the square and get some ice cream. It was awesome.

Got gas. I usually fill up when it’s on 1/4.
s

Went back to Chamblee to work with the kids at the mission.
s
s
s

We had a visitor from Perimeter church come to enjoy soccer with the boys at the mission.
s
They seemed to have a good time.

Stopped at Walmart. Yesterday, I got home without deodorant. Today, I went back, showed them the receipt and got my deodorant. It’s a smell thing.
s

After years of faithful service, I’m finally retiring my iPhone 5s holster. I had it when I had an iPhone 4.
s
Not even hot glue seemed to hold it together any longer. The back was down to the metal that I wrapped with electrical tape.
s

Enjoyed watching Escape Plan with Kathy this evening.

Admin duties now.

Run! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:06 pm

Rained about 3/4″.
s

The gardenia I planted last week has a flower on it. Love gardenias!
s

The hibiscus is also a beauty.
s

This morning I had a vigorous 5.09 mile run! Got rained on a little. Made for some beautiful pictures. Always worries me a bit because I carry a camera and iPhone. Beauty abounds on the trail!
s
s
s
s
d
s
s
s
s

The tree landed exactly right on the sign.
s

Well, ok then.
s

Got a sandwich for lunch and went to Walmart to pick up some supplies. I liked these pants.
s

I also purchased a number of small succulents. They were all three or four dollars. Cheap! They were absolutely parched for water. Felt really sorry for them. Gave them a good drenching at the church while I was putting gear away.
s

Picked up the mail at the church.
s

Stowed our conference gear away.
s

Joined Ashley at the mission. Some hard math homework for some of the kids. Takes a lot of patience to help them through it.
s

s

Ate supper with Jesse. Always good.
a

Home to work on admin duties. Looking forward to a day with Ashley tomorrow.

Can you figure out what happened?
s

Beautiful full moon.

Perimeter!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:20 pm

Kathy and I met up with Ashley in Clarkston then drove to Perimeter Church for their annual missions fair.

It was great to see my friend Chip Sweeney there. We go back in ministry seventeen years.
c

The people are great!

s
s

We had a very strong response with over 40 people signing up for more information and wanting to tour the International Village and work at Azalea.
t
x

One of the best conferences in a long time.

Perimeter actually had a bunch of skateboards for the kids to ride on. Wow.
s

We also taught some kids how to make balloon animals. They helped us give out over 200 balloons.
s

Ate lunch with with the girls and Jesse too! We went by Azalea to pick him up.
s
s
Came home to rest and plan for next week.

Rained at our house. Went out afterwards to play with bubbles. When the air is so moist they last for several minutes.
s

It really is amazing.

Got a new case for my new camera. My new camera is slightly longer than my last camera.
s
Decided it was time to retire the old one, especially since my camera some how came out of it.
s
I’d patched it up a lot.

My new camera has some interesting functions. It can give six different versions of each shot. Then you can select from the group.
s
s
s

Last week, I ran five miles at sunset and early dark. I noticed a lot of bats on a couple of the streets. This evening I saw a bat on our street! I was quite excited by that.

I saw him by this streetlight.
s

Enjoyed watching The Butler with Kathy this evening.

Admin duties now.

Perimeter! Drive way!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:06 pm

Went to FBC Doraville this morning to pick up some items we’ll need for the Perimeter Mission Fair.
s
s
s
Then to Perimeter Church to take all my supplies and check out the scene.
p

I liked the theme.s
s

Didn’t get to set up, because they were still setting up the hall. Left all my things on the table.
s

I liked this Porsche I saw in the parking lot.
s

Stopped by Subway to pick up a couple of subs for Jesse. Dropped them off at Azalea.
s

Did some shopping at Walmart.
s

I liked the sound of this.
s
Huh?
s

Added some new Rain X to my windshield washer fluid. It’s amazing stuff. Rain beads up on the glass. You don’t really even need the windshield wipers. You can still see.
s

Added new #2 triggers to my PS3 controller.
s

Brought this Dendrobium orchid home from my office. It was getting way too dry there.
s

Came home to work on pressure washing my driveway.
s
s
s

Did the first section. Looks better.
s

Enjoyed watching Anthony Bourdain’s new show on CNN, “Parts Unknown.” It may be my new favorite show. Amazing video and editing in incredible locations.

I’ve had a subscription to Wired magazine for nearly 20 years. They often have very interesting layouts. Can you read this?
z
Beautiful lichen.

Plants! Camera!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:29 pm

This morning I worked in the garden. I replanted two large corn plants.

While I was doing that, I reached for my camera to document what was going on and NO camera! The case that I have on my belt was there, but not the camera. I searched for over an hour and a half. All through the yard, I’d even been up on the roof cleaning branches. Went back up on the roof.
s
All through the house. Completely through the car. Absolutely baffling. I’m sure it’ll turn up, but if it’s outside . . . well that’s never good. I’d gotten a little over two years out of it and it was actually a free replacement of another camera! That’s why I always get the insurance.

It has some different features than my previous camera. Better quality HD video for one. It also has wifi, although I’m not sure I’d use that. It’s the Canon Power Shot ELPH 340 HS. I’ve shot this family of cameras for years. They are amazing.
s

It was a sad day because of my camera. It served me well! Looking forward to using my new one!
t

I also repotted one of the hibiscus.
h
Put a 12 pack of begonias into little pots.
s

As far as my inside plants go: the orchids, Venus Fly Traps and African Violets seem happy.
s

Good color saturation in the new camera.
s

This little orchid is still a juvenile.
o

I got her from a orchid grower in Florida. It’s blooms are amazing and they’re supposed to smell like gardenias and orange blossoms. Yeah, baby!

Came home to work on admin duties.
