Ben! Newsletters! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:47 pm

I had a fun lunch with one of my favorite people, Pastor Ben from Westside Baptist Church. We are very similar personalities. It’s always great to be around people with passion.

I finished up getting the labels and newsletters ready to go and went to Azalea to help the kids.

Also picked up stamps. I tried to get them at the Post Office, but it was packed out.
s
Went by Office Depot near the mission instead.

They always enjoy helping with the stickers.
s

Then worked on homework. Plenty to do!
s

Great to see Ashley and Jesse. I miss them even if I don’t see them for a couple of days.
s

Ate supper with J and talked about the tanks for the Poison Dart Frogs. I have the first part of the equipment coming soon to start setting up the environments. Once everything is set up and running well, then we’ll get the animals to put in them.

Came home after eating supper. Starting working on admin duties. Looking forward to watching Lark Rise to Candleford with Kathy.

Westside! Atlanta Botanical! Scott Boulevard!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:05 pm

This morning I wrote my newsletter. I still need to lay out the pictures.

Met up with Kathy at Westside Baptist Church.
s
s
I always enjoy Pastor Ben’s sermons.

Ate lunch with Kathy. Then came home to change clothes. Went on safari to the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
s
It was wonderful.

s
s

I thought this was fascinating.
s

I liked this dog made of pine straw.
s

They have an exhibit on Poison Dart Frogs. This is the species I’m looking at.
s
Plus a yellow and black version.
s

I loved the orchids.
s

In 2 weeks they will have a special exhibit of orchids with another 1,000 species on display. There are 25,000 species of orchids of which the Atlanta Botanical Garden has 2,500. Whoa.
s
s
s

s
s
s
Almost endless variety.
s
s

I liked learning more about the vanilla orchids. They originated in Madagascar.
s

s
s
s
s

Darwin was interested in Orchids. He also grew Venus Fly Traps.

s
s

I highly recommend getting an Phalaenopsis orchid. They are hardy and the blooms last for weeks!
s

Today I found out where they came from!
s

The grounds outside were interesting, but not particularly stunning. It’s winter. Duh.
s
s

I used voice directions for the first time on my phone. It was helpful.

Went to Pet Smart and the Pet Supermarket to see what the prices of equipment for the new tanks would be. It’s a lot cheaper using Amazon and far more variety.

I stopped by Scott Boulevard Baptist Church this afternoon.
s
There was an open door so I was able to go into the old sanctuary and look around. Kind of gave me the creeps.
s
d
Kathy’s dad, Bill Doverspike, pastored this church in its prime. K’s sister, Ann, got married there.

K and I enjoyed watching an episode of From Lark Rise to Candleford this evening.

Admin duties now.

I liked the texture and lighting on these bricks.
s
I practiced origami. I liked the paper.
s

Interesting lighting.
s
The sunset was beautiful.

K! Run!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:11 pm

I had a fun lunch with Kathy. Then we went to Collectibles to see some antiques and vintage things. I got the original Yoda from Star Wars still in the box. Excellent. Interesting things to see!
s
s
Remember this? How many do you recognize?
s

The first PlayStation!
s

How long has it been since you’ve seen black light posters?
s
d
They were playing music from Led Zepplin II when we were shopping. Groovy.
s

We came home to let the food settle. Then went out for exercise. I ran 4.98 miles.
s
Always something beautiful to see.

Cleaned up after the run, then worked on admin duties.

Chris! Mission! Tanks!

Tim A. Cummins @ 12:06 am

Thursday, I updated our registration for Whirlwind Missions with the State of Georgia.
s

Gave myself a haircut.
d

Ashley and I had fun eating with Chris Skinner. He’s been a partner of ours for years.
s

We ate at Calcutta Palace. It opened a few days ago. I liked it.
s
Then we went to the church to finish the tax letters for our donors. Completed the job!
s

We had a few minutes before our next assignment, so we went over to the Antique Factory. I liked these brain displays.
d
s

And this old circular tube TV.
d

Helped the kids at the mission. Always fun.
d
s

I thought this was one of the dumbest assignments for learning spelling ever.
s

I saw a deer near our entrance to our sub division last night. Reminded me of Texas at my folk’s house.

Watched Lark Rise to Candleford with K. Then went to sleep.

Friday morning we woke up to a rainy day.

I worked on my bird feeders.
d
There were a lot of Goldfinches there this morning. They normally love thistle. I moved the feeders to a new place so they had better access and I have a better view.
s

K and I ate lunch together.

I worked on getting some of the supplies for the two vivariums I’m building for the Poison Dart Frogs.
d
It’s fun working on a project.

Today I picked up artificial plants at Hobby Lobby.

I used the thin plastic from a poster frame to make the lids for two of the tanks.

This is a rough draft of what they’ll look like.
s
s

Did the shopping at Walmart.

I watched Maze Runner with Kathy this evening. She fell asleep. I liked it. Then we watched Siberian Tigers in the Snow together. And an episode of the British series “Lark Rise to Candleford.” It’s been fun.

Admin duties now.

K! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:44 pm

Kathy and I went to the main permit building in Lawrenceville this morning. The building reminded me of Houston, TX.
s
I’m always learning.
s
I wonder how many fortune telling, finger printers there are?
s

She had to get a paper for her background check for a job she’s applying for. We got everything pretty fast!

Got gas. Cheap!
s

Went for a 5.10 mile run this afternoon. Always something beautiful to see.
s
s

I picked up a terrarium today. Actually, two. Pet Smart had the exact size terrarium that Jesse and I wanted for half price. We are both looking forward to get some poison arrow dart frogs.
d
Always fun working with the kids at the mission.
s

K and I enjoyed watching the Mentalist on TV. Final season!

Admin duties now.

Our new QT continues to make progress.

Beautiful sun set.

Podcast! Painting! Groceries! Mission!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:50 pm

One of my favorite things this morning: Recording!
s
This is a terrific edition of Verbal Surgery called “MakeUnder!” Learn ways to manipulate your brain and mind using your body! Just click on the title and groove!

Cleaned my fish tank.
d
The water is still stirred up when I shot this photo. Hours later when I’m writing this, it’s crystal clear.

I’ve been doing research on Poison Dart Frogs.
s
s
Unless they eat toxic ants from the rain forest, they’re not venomous at all. The frogs I’ve been looking at have all been captive bread, none are from Brazil. Set up for the tank could take a while.

Repainted the hood of my car. The clear coat pain sealant has been degraded due to the hot, Georgian summers. Doesn’t look great, but will keep it from rusting.
s
Went to Walmart to pick up a few items.
s
Took the tax donor letters and put them in the mail.
s
s

We still have a few left, we’re looking for the addresses.

I trimmed the dead growth away on my Venus Fly Traps.
s
I’ve never kept them outside in the cold before. It’s a leap of faith based on things I’ve read.

Enjoyed working at the mission with the kids.
s
s

Delicious supper with Kathy and Jesse this evening.

Admin duties now.

I loved the sunset.
s
More of my Bengali friend’s artwork.

Westside! House Recon!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:37 pm

Kathy and I enjoyed going to church at Westside Baptist Church this morning. Pastor Ben is always a blessing. Super fired up guy. This scene from church preached to me. Little child, just resting in her father’s arms.
d
Ben has some really cute grandsons.
d
They move really fast.
Enjoyed lunch with Kathy.

Worked on posting some creative writing on my Twitter feeds. I always think of it as Ben Franklin on steroids.
s

This afternoon, K and I met up with Ashley and Miles at a house they were looking at.
s
s

s
s
s

I liked this tree.
s

Had a fun time with Jesse and Kathy for pizza.

Donors! DNow!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:23 pm

I delivered the financial report to our treasurer this morning.
s

Went to the Post Office to pick up stamps for the donors tax letters.
s
Then over to the Dollar Tree to pick up goodies for the Outreach Events we’re holding tomorrow with FBC Mountain Park. It’s their Disciple Now weekend and Whirlwind Missions is providing the mission opportunity.

I picked up supplies for six locations. Goodies included a couple of small balls, a long jump rope, bubbles, cookies, drinks, nail polish, hearts and heart stickers, crayons and pipe cleaners.
s

The team will tell the story of Zaccheus, Jesus being friend to the lonely. They’ll make little pipe cleaner men and act like they’re climbing a tree.

Then they’ll do a craft where they decorate hearts for their moms.

Also went to Walmart to pick up some of the supplies and do the family shopping.
s
d
After buying the materials, I split them up into separate bags.
s

Took them over to FBC Doraville, in preparation for the briefing tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be really nice: clear and nearly 60. Awesome!

Went by the missions to let the managers know that the teams were coming. Two new managers out of five. It’s a constant turn over.
s

Came home and the weather was so nice that I went for a 5.05 mile run.
s
I took the vest off almost immediately. Lovely weather, just slightly cool.

s
d

Enjoyed watching The 100 Foot Journey with K.
