We had some issues with our server yesterday. Sorry the web site was down!
We’ve had really cold weather here in Stone Mountain. Check out these pictures from the top of my car.
I had a great day with the young men at the mission yesterday. I went over to the Atlanta Art Institute where Tabias is going to school. I took him there along with Jouvens to buy him some books. Jouvens’ girlfriend Macaila also goes to AAI.
The rest of the day and evening was spent at N. Peachtree Baptist Church. They’re having their Global Focus celebration this week. I set up my display and enjoyed talking the to church members about our work.
Today was my Ashley day! We went over to Lawrenceville to spend some time with one of our big supporters–Todd Harrison. He’s a great guy and is SO generous to our ministry. He gave us a bunch of chips, drinks and cookies to take to the missions. What a help!
We took the goodies over to Bill Hickey at Huntington Ridge. Ashley and I also went to Walmart to pick up a new bike for Bill ( he sold his so he could buy food!) and a new basketball goal for the mission at Azalea. I usually have to buy a new goal about once a year or so. It’s heavily used and just gets beat up.
Good day, made even better because I got to spend it with my sweet Ashley!
Went by Perimeter Church (one of my favorites!) to pick up 20 small grills. They’ve been so generous to us over the years! You may remember when Jouvens and I picked up over 300 chairs that they gave us! We’ll be using the grills in large events in the coming year.
Just finished working on my email and phone calls. Teams are already starting to line up for Spring Break and Summer ministry. Great!
I’m headed over to Azalea now to check on the kids. Deborah Hayes, my partner at the Doraville Pregancy Resource Center helped me with a project for Navila. What a blessing!
Fabulous weather! It’s nearly 70 degrees here in Atlanta!
Went by the bank to take care of some deposits.
Over to the Post Office to pick up some Passport forms. Just in case. . . . I’m working on filling those out.
Dropped off some financial forms I filled out for our treasurer. We’re moving towards using a paycheck company to help Whirlwind keep up with the tax obligations we incur. Our CPA didn’t do a good job with keeping that going in a timely manner.
Had a great conversation with our pastor here at FBC Doraville. Sam’s a great guy. I enjoy working with him. He gave me that word that Chamblee Doraville Ministry Center/Atlanta Intercultural Ministry is officially dead as of end of February. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully we’ll get some great new partners there.
I have a meeting next week with the director of the Atlanta branch of Columbia International University. I’m hoping their students may help us here at the FBC Doraville campus.
I’ll be headed over to Azalea to check on the kids in a moment.
I started my year off with a bang! This morning I went to the Marriot hotel where I met with about 750 Campus Crusade college students. I had a great time firing the group up about doing outreach! We covered 67 locations–largest in the history of the Atlanta. We covered 17 cities in the metroplex.
I met my wife and most of our extended Atlanta family for lunch at Moes. Anyone for a Joey Bag of Donuts?
Came home and worked on my financial report. I have that ready to take over to my treasurer in the morning.
Cold day today. I would have loved to run, but too cold for an old African like me.
Went through my phone log and caught up on the folks I’d missed. I had kept up with most of the calls while I was in Texas so I really wasn’t too behind.
Knocked out my email.
Started this morning with the electricity going off. I sleep with a fan, so when it stops, I wake up. Stayed off for about an hour.
Really massive thunder this afternoon. Close to the house.
Took the vacuum cleaner to Orecks to get repaired. Needs a new cord.
Bought a new hoody. My old when had bike chain grease all over it. I don’t care what Tide says, that stuff ain’t coming out of a bright yellow jacket.
Didn’t get to run today. Wonderfully mild, though wet.
My sweet family got back to Atlanta today! It was a great trip to Texas for Christmas. We spent a lot of quality time with my parents and my brother and his family.
It’s a long trip, about 1,000 miles from here to Georgetown, Texas. We normally take three days. We usually start out later on the first day, around 4 pm, then drive about 5 hours or so. The second day we usually go about 7 hours and then 3-4 the last. Not too bad!
Highlight of the trip was my parent’s 50th anniversary party! That was great! I had spent hours transferring my parent’s old pictures to our photo gallery, then Ashley took the best of the photos and put them into a slide show. My brother Jim borrowed his company’s video projector and we showed them on a screen that the restaurant provided. We ate at Stagecoach Inn in Salado, Texas. It’s a famous place that has housed Jesse James and George Armstrong Custer to name a couple.
I also preached at my Dad’s church, the Worship Place. I gave a 10 minute talk as if I was telling the Christmas story to kids at the mission. The congregation seemed to like it!
