Todd & Ian

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:37 pm

Today I had a great meeting with Todd Harrison, one of our biggest supporters and an overall great guy! We had roast goat together in Clarkston with Jesse and Kathy! Always fun. We had a good time talking about missions.

Then over to Chamblee to pick up Ian from work.
i
I brought him back to the Stone Mountain area where he picked up his car that was getting fixed. Seems to be running great now! Hope for a long time to come.

Ran 4 miles this morning. First three were easy. Last one was pretty tough. Sun came out. Humidity in the high 80s. Like running in a terrarium.

This evening I took Kathy to see Inglourius Basterds. I’m a huge Tarentino fan. This one was just ok. It was about 2 1/2 hours long. Quentin should have cut out about an hour of it. Still, pretty entertaining. Kathy didn’t like it. And she loves Brad Pitt.

I’m watching the international track competition in Berlin. Man! Those folks can run!

Looks like it’s getting ready to pour down rain. Lightning all around us.

Computers, Istanbul & Azalea

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:15 pm

This morning I enjoyed an hour outside watching the birds. The hummingbirds haven’t been as plentiful as last year, but it’s still fun to see three or four of them buzzing around the yard.

Jesse and I went to my partner Keith Harrell’s house to drop off the computer that Jesse has been working on. It had a number of viruses on it. I was glad he could get it going again.
t
Then over to Perimeter College to pick up Ashley!
a

It’s our favorite day of the week. We met up with her boyfriend Miles at Cafe Istanbul to enjoy some Turkish food together. cj

Always a good plan.
a

We checked out Radio Shack and Game Stop at Northlake Mall. We needed to pick up some supplies for the mission. We got a couple of old Nintendo 64s going again. They’re the only system that the kids don’t immediately destroy.

The kids got to the mission soon after we arrived. We helped them with their homework and also gave them some other supplies that we had collected.
aj
Came on home and started working on my homework.

Good day!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:24 pm

Got up early and went to the Kroger to pick up supplies for the meeting today with the Property Managers.
k

They are a group of dear friends!

cd
We went to Willow Branch in Clarkston to pick up Joe Scott. We took him over to the DMV to get the title of his car transferred.
j
Drove more than 100 miles today.

Got home and mowed the yard. Hot, sweaty, dirty.

Sweetwater and Clarkston!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:06 pm

Jesse and I met up with partners in Lawrenceville from Sweetwater Church.
ja
Pastor Jackie and his partners Darrell and Tony met us to talk about our work at Alexander Mill.
d

They’re one of my favorite churches and are doing a great job of outreach at the complex. I’m very excited about the ministry there!

After that meeting we went to Clarkston to help Bennett and his team at Willow Branch. I helped some kids from Congo and Somalia.
ws

Jesse taught his guitar class.
j

Came home and ran 4 miles. Wasn’t that hot, but seemed like I was running in a terrarium. Tough. I watched the world track and field competition going on in Berlin this morning. I saw guys run 6.2 miles in 27 minutes. Wow! As you may guess, I don’t run that fast. But at least I run.

Ashley and Azalea!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:34 pm

It’s Ashley’s first day back to school! She’s a Sophomore now. Amazing!
a
This morning I went to FBC Mountain Park to visit with my good friend Debbie Lamb and take her daughters a couple of wedding presents. Kathy and I decided to buy them a small stepladder that you can use in your kitchen. Not too romantic, but I reckon they might actually use it!

Dropped off my financial report to my treasurer.

J and I worked at the house for a couple of hours then went back out to check on the office at FBC Doraville. Not too many bills!

Checked on the kids at the mission. We had a big group there today. Lots of kids need help. Does the homework look hard to you?
h It’s for a 6th grader.
mj

After helping with the kids J worked on a lady’s computer at Azalea. Virus issues. I think we got it squared away.

We’re working on getting the Nintendo 64 (remember those?) going again. It’s the only video machine that the kids can’t mess up in a matter of hours.

We stopped at Publix to pick up some meds for Kathy.

Drove home in the rain. Been good to get the ground wet! We’ve had some other mushrooms in our yard.m

Stone Mountain!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:48 pm

I worked on admin stuff this morning. Called one of the managers in Gainesville. We may have to postpone the start of one of the missions to rehab a room.

Went to the Post Office to buy stamps. Liked these old TV stamps.

s

Saw a cool cicada.

cc

This is from a Magnolia tree.
m

K and I rode our bikes to Stone Mountain. t
l
About 10 miles in all. My legs are tired. It was beautiful out there! Sure do love that place!
l

l

I like lichens.
l

Started to get dark on our way home.
c

Ashley got in a fender bender today. Everyone is fine.

I heard today that the President of the North American Mission Board resigned on Tuesday, he and his top three aides. Sure hope it doesn’t turn out to be some scandal. I really liked him.

Kathy took me to the movies. I saw GI Joe. It was ok. I’d give it a 5 out of 10. District 9 looks like it’ll be better.

Ashley & Jesse! School supplies!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:13 pm

Had both my sweet kids with me today!
j
We went to the National Association of Church Administrators this morning. I spoke to them about our immigrant population and some basics about body language.
rd
Then over to Azalea to hand out the school supplies. Wish we would have had everything we needed.
da

Back to the house to pick up Kathy. We had a dinner this evening at Toreros with a group of friends from our neighborhood. I thought that was cool.

Schedule and car woes.

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:17 pm

Jesse and I loaded up and headed out for Huntington Ridge this morning.  I had it in my schedule to meet with the Zamoras for lunch today.  Apparently, the had lunch Monday instead.  Bahd luck.  We had a good visit and talked about a couple of situations at his complex he wanted me to know about:  a drainage problem by the mission and a new Bible study that was going.

Our 2 pm meeting was also canceled.  One of the partners couldn’t make it.

So Jesse and I picked up Ian North and went to lunch.
i
Then over to the Borders bookstore.  He’s written multiple articles for publication.  We went to Borders to look at the other magazines that might want his material.  Helpful time.

While at the store, Ian got a call from Ruthie that the Buick had conked out on the side of the road.  Not good.  So we piled in the car and went to find her.  I took them home and J and I went back to the car to wait for AAA.  I love AAA! Those guys have really helped our family.  Ashley has a flat tire, they fix it.  Kathy gets locked out, they get you in, car conks out—100 miles of towing.  Excellent!

So we brought it on over to T&G the mechanics that work on my car.  Hope it’s nothing serious.

Came on home.  Ran 2.3 miles.  First run I’ve had in a couple of weeks.  Bad back.  Bad foot.  Bad neck.  Not good.

Felt pretty good.  I ran an abbreviated version of the 4 miles I normally do.

Groovy!

Clarkston!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:01 pm

Jesse and I enjoyed meeting up in Clarkston with Ian and Ruthie North! Always a good time. Bennett came by a little later. We enjoyed delicious roast goat and chapatis!

Then to Briarcliff Baptist Church to pick up school supplies for Azalea. We had the good fortune to see Jason Sullivan there too! He helps out at that church. We loaded the supplies into the Chrysler and boogied over to Azalea Place. The kids helped us bring the stuff in from the car. We told the kids that we’ll distribute everything tomorrow at 4:30.
a
We couldn’t do it today because Jesse teaches his guitar class today at that time. We had a good time back at Willow Branch. A family from the Anchor church brought by some snacks to the mission. Generous!
c

Their children had collected the snacks for the mission kids.

We had a new volunteer from Moody visit with us today! Kieley came to us from Moody, up in Chicago. She helped the kids at Willow do some crafts!k

Hot today. Hottest I think this year. My car briefly went to 102 degrees!
1
My body is feeling better, I’m actually thinking about exercising again. But then I step outside and think, is this really good for me?
