Grandgirls! Stone Mountain! Mission! 8.27.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:57 pm

Enjoyed watching a helicopter drop off a big container.

Picked up the grand girls at Global Mall and saw Ashley.

The girls are such good helpers. Penelope helped me mail a package.

Nothing sprouting in our flower seeds so far.

My gardenias are flowering. That’s always good.

I got the girls a set of Picasso Tiles. They’re enjoying making stuff with that.

Penelope helped me make breakfast. Grits and toast.

We stopped off at a construction site and I explained to them how they were building a parking garage by putting together these huge pieces of concrete. It was like those construction tiles.

We went to Stone Mountain today. We put some pennies on the railroad ties.

Walked about a third of the way up.

Had a break and enjoyed the beautiful weather and ate some chocolate chip cookies that we made. We walked about a mile in all.

Penelope enjoyed showing me some of the toys that she made from the new construction set.

On the way to the mission the traffic was bad. We were first one in line that got stopped so had a good view at the tow truck hauling the car out of the ditch.

Penelope helped me get the envelopes ready to mail. She is an excellent helper.

Had a big group of kids and adults who needed help at the mission. I’m being very strict about everyone wearing masks. They’re not really used to doing that. It’s a struggle at times.

Today I tied my all-time record on Duolingo of 282 days straight.

The last time I got that I was two years ago when I was studying Portuguese. I was actually in Rio de Janeiro in the streak broke. That was because the Wi-Fi field in the house that we were staying at went out.

I am speaking Spanish a lot at the mission. Several of the children and the parents speak little or no English so it’s good practice for me and makes me feel proud of the progress that I’ve made.

Got all the newsletters in the mail.

Studied Spanish this evening and did my brain training.

Released a new episode of Verbal Surgery today called, “To See or Not To See.”

It’s excellent.

Did my brain training.

Grandgirls! Flowers! Workbooks! Mission After-School! 8.26.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:40 pm

Met Ashley at Global Mall.

Great day with the grand girls!

We had our cooking class.

Planted our flower seeds.

Taught the girls how to use a pencil sharpener.

Spent time on the workbooks.

After our school day, I take them home and get them to take a nap.

We had our first day of the after school program at Azalea. Very different since it was all digital. Handed out masks and made sure everyone was super careful.

All our work will be outside. Not sure how everybody will handle it when it starts getting cold. We will do what we gotta do. Not going be inside with a bunch of kids. It’s just not safe.

Got groceries on the way home.

Also picked up and dropped off the second page for newsletters.

Did the last of the labels tonight. Will collate the newsletters tomorrow and get it in the mail.

Still need to do my brain training and study Spanish.

Rained over an inch yesterday.

Lots of mushrooms around!

Fantastic lichens.

Invited to speak at another major online Hypno conference in November. Should be fun!

Grandgirls! Schoolwork! Mission Wifi! 8.25.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:59 pm

I studied poetry on the way to pick up the grand girls. Some of the over forty pieces I know.

Met Ashley at Global Mall and got the girls.

We are preparing for a flower planting project.

We had fun with clay this morning. Penelope made a hammerhead shark.

We had some practice sorting by colors and counting.

They helped me clean the glass doors.

Got rid of some cobwebs around the house.

Did some workbook time. Penelope is a lefty. I’m doing research of things that can help her learn writing more easily.

For a treat we made chocolate chip cookies. They seemed to really enjoy those. The helped me in every aspect of cooking.

Listened to Marcus Aurelius.

Took them home and put them down for a nap.

Went around the mission to see how far the Wi-Fi would reach. We’re planning on doing the after school program outside.

Studied Spanish.

Insurance! Newsletter! Bike! 8.24.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:36 pm

Studied Spanish and did my brain training.

Rainy day today.

I got the insurance claim started to see if they’ll help with repairing my roof. Hope that works out.

Went to Stone Mountain and had a good talk with my buddy Anthony in the UK.

I wrote my newsletter while at the mountain. Although my hand is a lot better and I can type better I still prefer using talk to text.

Went to the post office to get stamps.

I’m enjoying my new phone holder. It works a lot better than my old one.

I saw an interesting license plate looked like it was from Japan.

Rained over an inch and a half yesterday.

Rode my bike 8.75 miles.

Listened to Marcus Aurelius and to Harry Potter in Spanish.

Cut my ride short because it looked like I was going to get rained on.

Came home and produced my newsletter.

Worked on labeling the envelopes.

I ran out of ink so I wasn’t able to print the address labels. I’ll get those from Ashley tomorrow. Put an order in for more ink.

I started watching a new Telenovela called ”La Reina del Sur.” I’ve enjoyed it so far. Looks like a lot of it was shot in Spain.

Podcast! Calls! Bike! 8.23.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:41 pm

Studied Spanish and did my brain training.

Had a good talk with my brother-in-law Bill and my Mom today.

Recorded a new episode of Verbal Surgery called “Riding the Breaks.” It’s a good one.

Listened to Marcus Aurelius.

Also listened to radio from Madrid.

Rode my bike 9.81 miles.

Beauty!

Listened to Harry Potter in Spanish as well as more radio from Madrid.

I didn’t ride as long as normal because I had a problem with my water bottle carrier and had to fix it again. So that gave me a late start.

Grandgirls! Overnight! Bill! Bike! 8.21-22.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:52 pm

Friday, I picked up the girls at Global Mall.

Enjoyed seeing Ashley.

On the way home, we got gasoline for the car.

I showed the girls the new workbooks I got them. I call them “Gamebooks.” They enjoyed working on those.

We had fun with play dough as well.

It was a rainy day.

Ordered groceries.

We went outside when it stopped raining to do bubbles.

Later that day, I worked on Everly‘s foot that got a little cut on it. Hydrogen peroxide plus antibiotic salve plus a Band-Aid plus a sock and she was OK.

Heavy thunderstorms through the ATL.

They went to sleep about 9:30. I actually has good night’s sleep last night which was shocking.

I liked this article.

Saturday morning I showed them what a sticker burr was. A lot of times I’ll call them a little sticker burr.

Also told them the story about when I used to do spearfishing in the river in Georgetown, Texas.

We worked some more on the letters, shapes and holding pencils. Penelope is making good progress on all that.

After that, I took them to the other set of grandparents to enjoy them.

I got a new holder for my phone for my car. I wore the other one out it was hard to get it to hold it in place.

Went to Rock Bridge Baptist Church.

Met up with the President of my board. He got some masks for us to use with the kids at the mission.

Also listened to Marcus Aurelius on the way home.

I got home and my little school seemed sad and empty.

Got the groceries. I’ve been cleaning them off with a bleach solution before I bought them in the house. Jesse and I discussed it and decided it really wasn’t worth the extra effort. The latest research has shown that the covid virus doesn’t stay on surfaces like they first were saying. Hard to contract like that.

I studied Spanish. I continue to make progress on that.

I rode my bike 15.25 miles.

Saw some interesting mushrooms because it’s been raining a lot.

Beautiful full sun crescent moon.

Interesting clouds.

Listened to Marcus Aurelius as well as to Radio for Madrid.

Also went over all the poetry that I know. Takes about an hour to quote.

Still need to do my brain training.

Grandgirls! Ashley! Reimbold! 8.19.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:54 pm

Studied Spanish and did my brain training.

Met up with Ashley and the grand girls at Global Mall.

Had a fun day with them today.

I organized some of the girl’s clothes in a drawer for them to use at my house now. That’s good.

We went to visit Ashley at her new job.

She’s working with the Reimbold Eye Group in Alpharetta. Everyone was super nice to us and of course fell in love with the grand girls.

We had a fun lunch together.

Then went back to Chamblee and had some frozen yogurt.

Talked with more of the kids at the mission. Trying to figure out how best to help them. It seems they’re using Google classroom for their assignments. Did seem to find out that they can log on with our Wi-Fi. We may need to try to get an extender so we can use it outside. I’d rather us all be less exposed to the virus and keep everything outside as long as possible.

Didn’t get to bike. A big weather pattern blew through Stone Mountain with a lot of rain.

I liked this sticker.

Grandgirls! Stone Mountain! Carving! Azalea! 8.18.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:39 pm

Studied the Stoics this morning. Listened to Marcus Aurelius.

Went to Global Mall to pick up the grand girls. Always great to see Ashley.

Took Penelope and Everly to Stone Mountain. We watched the sky ride car.

Climbed a lot of rocks around Stone Mountain near the carving.

We went up right to the base of the carving and I saw some sculptures I’ve never seen before.

I pretty much wore them out.

Went to Azalea to help the kids with their homework. Everything is online so it’s not easy to do that. It was still fun to hang out with them.

Went by my office to check the mail.

Went to the bank to deposit checks.

Set out the trashcan. My gardenias are blooming a little bit so it helped the job smell a little bit better.

The grand girls are really tough on technology. I used tape to cover up some of the battered parts.

Studied Spanish and did my brain training this evening.

Podcast! Groceries! 8.17.20

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:58 pm

Studied Spanish and did my brain training.

Did some research on a Stoic term and concept called Momento Mori. It literally means remember your death, which is the idea of using your death as an advisor for your actions now.

Had a great talk with my buddy, Anthony.

I got a update from Walmart saying they were completely out of distilled water. I went over to Ingles and they had plenty. So I loaded up with 12 gallons. Kathy uses them for her CPAP machine. I use them for the orchids and carnivorous plants.

I love my Gorilla Cart. Way easier than hauling it by hand!

Listened to more of Marcus Arelious meditations on Audible.

Picked up the groceries, got them cleaned up, brought them inside the house.

With the distilled water I was able water all my plants.

I had a conversation with my friend Bill Kelly about doing my roof. I sent his estimate over to my insurance guys. Hopefully, I’ll be covered and I’ll just have to pay a deductible for that expense. It’s about $6000.

I recorded a new episode of Verbal Surgery. It’s a really good one!

I read a poem by John Donne today. I particularly thought an interesting part was about the Trinity.

I was planning on riding my bike but it looked like the rain was coming into our area so I didn’t. I don’t like riding when it’s slippery.

I did miss getting a bike ride in. Research says I need to do at least 150 minutes a week for good health. I’m way ahead of that.
