Newsletter! Fiesta!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:47 pm

Had 1/16″ of rain last night. Better than nothing!
r

This morning I worked on the fund raising newsletter for my upcoming trip to India in October.
n

I printed out the labels and made the copies.
l

c

And went to the Post Office to pick up stamps.
s
I liked the “green” theme. I’m always trying to teach the kids something.

Also worked on editing the video for the team. Now I upload and burn a DVD for them.

Had lunch with my family! Groovy!
c

And had the kids help me with the labels.
m
k

They always enjoy “putting on stickers.” Sweet kids!

Ashley, Jesse and I met up with my team from FBC Heavener, OK at Plaza Fiesta.
ja

I gave them a final briefing and took them around “MexiMall!” Good times!
j

I bought Jesse some carne asadas while I was there. Yumbo! Although they have the hottest salsa in Atlanta. Dad gum habaneros!
s

Went to Publix to pick up my first round of meds against malaria, cholera, encephalitis . . . . and all the other little nasties that try and make you sick when you live in really rural 3rd world countries.

Came back to Mountain Park to say my final goodbyes to the Oklahoma team and to pick up my keys and coolers from their leader.

Home now to work on admin duties.

Can’t hardly believe that my summer teams are actually finished! WOW! What a summer it’s been!

Wasn’t sure about this. What’s vicious?
v

Went to the pet store. I thought this was funny.
d

Who spends money on dog food like this?
d

I liked this logo.
w
Not sure what they do. But I reckon they do it everywhere.

Also like this hood ornament.
s
Drive friendly!

Always a fantastic experience!

We were joined by Jesse and Kathy for lunch at Ashiana. Delicious!
j
k

Checked on the teams at the missions!
a
j

Then drove to Eagles Landing Baptist Church to see Bruce Mewborn and Michiko! They lead the missions department.
m
b
Had an awesome time with them. Then over to FBC Jonesboro where Ashley and I made a presentation to the youth group.

We stopped at the Confederate cemetery there before we spoke.
c

They were my favorite team this summer. It was great to see them again!

Ashley shot video of me speaking. I’ll have that on line for your enjoyment soon!

Watched Royal Pains and White Collar with Kathy this evening. Groovy!

Another hot day! I saw it briefly go up to 105 in my car!
b
But my friends from Oklahoma said it was 118 in their town! Holy moly!

Tour! Teams!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:18 pm

I gave a briefing to my team about Buddhism and the difference between Works and Grace religions today.
g

g
b

Then Ashley and I took them on a tour of the International Village.

t

d
t

We start out at CD Tower where we look at the store where people can buy their idols.

Then over to the Chinese Pharmacy to see the Eastern way of healing.
c
c

sw

Then ate some delicious quesidillas at Carneceria #1. One of my favoritos!
q
The team did a great job at the missions this afternoon.

k

d

It was great to have Monica and her brother Justin lead the teams this week.
m

JP and Jesse are the youth directors. They’ll be moving to Arkansas soon for new challenges!
jp
Monica is doing a wonderful job with Mobilizing Students.

Even though it was hot.

h
It was still “Surprisingly cool in the shade!”

I’ve been teaching Ashley how to shoot video news style. It’s cool how fast she understands and grabs the concepts I’m showing her!
a

Came on home to work on new podcasts! One of my favorite things to do!

Here’s a new favorite. “Smiling Cures All Ills!” Click on that title and I guarantee you will feel good NOW!

And here’s a thought I’ve been working on for the last few days, “Why me?” Said in the most upbeat, positive way possible! “Why Me?” I love this podcast. Check it out!

I’m not sure I should park near this.
c

When my friend told me, “I just saw Hello Kitty taking a poop.” I didn’t believe him. Only in the International Village!
k

Not sure about you, but I think we all could use more amusive fish.

Heavenly Heavener!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:38 pm

Had a fun day giving my briefing to the team from FBC Heavener, OK!
h
This is our second team from Oklahoma this year thanks to my friends at Mobilizing Students. It’s been great working with Rob Martin!
r
h2
I took them to the Buford Highway Farmers Market.
l

p

The obligatory frozen cow head kiss.
ch

And odd beer.
b
a

Then to the missions!

d
s

s

Came home to put the finishing touches on the Financial Report. Jesse did all the heavy lifting on that project.

And the rest of my admin duties.

I thought this creosote oozing from a telephone pole was interesting.

Hey Jude! India!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:23 pm

This morning K and I went back to the Atlanta Jewish Community Center to learn more about Judaism from Rabbi Glusman.

He did a fantastic job teaching us about the Torah. I find this type of seminar fascinating.
r
Also enjoyed walking around the building learning some more Hebrew words.
t
z
m

I loved their stained glass.
sg

They have an exhibit on the holocost at the AJCC.
j
m
m

It’s still hard to fathom. Six MILLION!

I wonder if this clock runs backwards?
c

Had a restful afternoon before going to Sunrise BC to meet up with my good friends Carl and Pat Barrington.

l

We had a meeting about our upcoming trip to India in October. I’m going as part of a medical team serving in the very most southern tip of India.

They’ll be six of us on the team.

I still haven’t met the last member.

End of the month admin duties. SO glad I have Jesse helping me with it this time.

I really hate data entry.

But I love sunsets!

Mowing! Captain America!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:08 pm

Worked hard today!

Cleaned my fish tank.
f

Mowed my yard, that’s always a challenge.
y
I have a 1/2 acre!

Wasn’t too dusty. PTL.

J and I went out for lunch. Love hanging out with my son!

Bought him a new quilt for his bed. More than a sheet, less than a comforter.

While we were shopping I saw this.
g
Groovy!

And would any blond actually buy something that says this?
B

This seems to imply that there are some women that are transparent.
c

Rested this afternoon. I know we ALL need to do that!

K and I went to go see Captain America this evening. I really liked it!
cA
I was actually planning on seeing Cowboys and Aliens, but the projector for that film was broken.

Home for admin duties.

Fun day!

Editing! Adios!

Tim A. Cummins @ 6:11 pm

Worked on my editing project for the DVDs of the teams here from last week. Always takes time.

I have to “shot sheet” the video–that means I locate the exact number of the scene that shows that particular team.
ss
Then I have to add it to the time line of the video editing program.
e
Final touches include adding the title pages and the background music.

I also called the locations for the teams coming next week.
te

Went to lunch with Ian North and Jess in Chamblee today! Always fun. Ruthie joined us for yogurt later. Can’t believe I didn’t get a picture!

Here’s what I thought Ian and J reminded me of!
ss

We saw this Ferrari outside the yogurt shop. Groovy!
f
f
Giddy up!

Also went by Azalea to check on my team and to give them the DVD of the video that I shot along with the Pastor’s planner book which he had left at the church. Sad to see them go!

J and I hung out at the bookstore for a bit before coming back home.
jt

I liked this cover on one of the books on mental puzzles.
b

We also went by the Apple store to take a look at the new Macbook Air. Here’s me on Facetime on the computer.
f
I saw this lady at Apple. I think she’s anorexic.
a

Had to pick up my car when we got back to Stone Mountain. The switch had gone bad on the brake light. The lights came on even when the car was parked! Also needed an oil change. Another $173.00 : ( That’s over $1,100 in two days!

Then Ashley called me and told me there was some issue with her scholarship. She feels confident that we’ll get reimbursed by the State, but added another $1,400 on the credit card. That’s $2,500 (if you’re keeping track!) I keep telling myself, “It always works out.” And it does!

Went to Kroger to pick up some groceries.

Back at my office to continue to burn DVDs and finish up this week’s projects for the teams.

Amazing to me that next week is the last of the summer! It has just blown by! I reckon that’s because I was SO busy. Really looking forward to getting back to my normal schedule of working with the kids every day rather than in an admin/support role.

Hoping to go see Cowboys and Aliens tonight, although the reviews haven’t been very good.

Saw these bikers racing around Stone Mountain yesterday!
b

Cute skull.

Fiesta!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:14 pm

Had a fun day with me teams! Sounds like a recurring motif, doesn’t it!

Gave my briefing on folk Catholicism.

Then took the team to Plaza Fiesta aka “MexiMall.”

We had an interesting time exploring the wonders of this amazing place. Check this out!

Delicious lunch at la Fonda!
f

Great to have Ash with me!
ta

We had our friend Lora with us today. She’s one of the young women that Kathy is mentoring.
l
Then over to the missions to work with the kids.
k

b

k

Paid a bill of nearly $1,000 for car repairs today. Yow! When I got home, my brake lights wouldn’t turn off. Will it never end?

My mechanic told me that Ashley’s AC is not working properly either. Although it’s ok right now, when it goes dead (it’s leaking freon now) it’ll be another $800. Holy Moly! Pray for our cars and our finances.

Enjoyed an hour of peace at Stone Mountain. Beautiful over there.

Hmmm. What would I like in my picture? Me on a horse. An eagle in the sky. By the beach. With my dog. Couple of pelicans. Oh, yeah. Don’t forget Jesus in the sky.
m
Perfecto, baby!

Another hair day gone horribly wrong.
m,

I bought this cologne. It reminded me of Monty Python.
np
Spirit of the Dead.
d
Sharp shoes!
ss

Never too much Run Devil Run scented oil!
rdr

I wonder if they noticed?
n

Just a few of the towns that the bus goes to leaving from Plaza Fiesta.
to

Always hard to find just the right Black Chicken soap.
s

My flip flops have just about had it. Have to buy new ones every year.
ff
Can you tell I’ve worn them a lot?
f
Can you tell I find myself fascinating?
t
Loved these flowers!
f
A better image to leave you with than my feet!

Although my feet are quite groovy as well!

Going Global!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:11 pm

Had an interesting day with my teams!
b

I gave them my briefing about Hinduism and Islam.
t
Then took them to Madina and Global Mall to actually experience what I was talking about.
m
h
t

I gave my friend a picture of him and one of the teams as a Thank You for allowing us to come and experience the Hindu temple.
m
m

Amazing to watch the priest pray to Ganesha and Shiva.

g

This is water from Mecca, used for healing by Muslims.
w

Ashley and I enjoyed delicious Indian food to complete the experience.
f
r

Then over to the missions to check on the teams.
v
t
f
t

I’m teaching Ashley how to shoot video. I have a very specific “news” style that I want her to emulate. I didn’t win 9 Associate Press awards for video for nothing!

Came home to work on admin duties. Thankfully, Jesse has been helping me with them. He’s not been feeling well. I told him to stay home and rest.

This struck me as funny.
b

I should have this sticker.
c

I liked these carvings I saw in an antique store in Chamblee.
c

Never too much arsenic.
a

Love the color.
c
This number spells HOT.

Teams! Safari!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:07 pm

Had a fun day with my sweet angel Ashley! Always great to have her along for the ride!

Did my briefing with the teams at church and then took them to the store to look at all the Buddhist idols.
b
Then across the street to check out the Chinese pharmacy and Carnecerial #!!
p
Always love me some quesidillas!

Ashley and I shot pictures and video of the teams.
g
t
g
Some of the kids were pretty tired!
s

I’m teaching her the basics of how to shoot video in a news style. She’s a fast learner and has a good eye so it’s pretty easy to do!

Went over to Stone Mountain this evening to relax a bit.

I needed that after hearing that it was going to cost about $950 to fix Ashley’s car! Her radiator developed a massive leak last night on the way home. That Expedition has been a real drain on our finances. It costs nearly $100 just to gas it up every week! Kind of silly for one little girl to be driving a car that can easily hold 8 people.

We’ll have to see what we should do with it. Hard decision to make.

The kids at the mission helped us do the labels for the newsletters.
kl
It was great to spend some time with Jouvens again!

j
They always love the doughnuts I get them as a special treat!
kd
I thought the ingredients of this bagel was interesting.
b

Came home to work on writing the letters. Kathy did most of them. What a great wife!

This hair made me lol.
