TK Weekend! Dahlonega! Gold! Rain! Beauty!
K and I try and get away for a long weekend a month.
Doesn’t always work out that way, but it’s something we always look forward to.
Decided to try Dahlonega this weekend. We’re looking for places even closer to home. It’s about 65 miles from my house. Not too bad!
Went into the Consolidated Gold Mine.
The soil has a lot of iron. That’s what gives it the rust color.
Down 250 feet.
In one day they pulled 54 lbs 9 oz of gold out of this mine! It was the largest vein of gold ever seen. The gold is found in quartz veins like this one. A normal size line is about the width of your finger. A large vein is the size of your hand. In this mine, the vein was 24 feet wide!
Believe it or not they used children to scamper through the mine shafts to let the miner know when they were getting ready to blow up the tnt. I reckon that made them minor miners.
They had a scarecrow competition.
Loved the lighting on the old buildings.
Had a rainy Saturday. Enjoyed a restful day and some delicious food.
Smith House was great.
Clouds rising from the forest.
Kathy’s bike got a flat. Bad luck. We still got one good ride out of her!
Fantastic sunset at the top of Crown Mountain.
I liked the view from our hotel.
Cute little monkeys.
This tree looked sad to me.
Wow!
I thought the antique stores were fun.
I liked this sticker.
