Whirlwind Missions

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:18 pm

One of the biggest Outreach Events every year is during Impact Atlanta hosted by First Baptist Atlanta. Derrick Poston and I went over the logistics of the event and determined we could cover 30 apartment complexes plus five housing subdivisions. We’ll be hosting a cookout with face painting, balloon animals, games and people will share the evangecube–a simple Gospel message.

I went back to talk with the manager of Columns at Lake ridge. He rescinded a previous decision and decided to let us host the Outreach Event at his complex. Great news!  There are 5 families from FBA who live there.

Tomorrow I’ll drop off the food list to my buddies at Kroger on Rockbridge. It’s the biggest single order of that store each year. We’ll feed at least 3,000 people.

Still trying to rebuild my data base from my lost email contacts. Bahd luck.

I taught four classes today at Providence Christian Academy for my friend Dr. Carl Barrington.  I enjoyed sharing about our ministry at Whirlwind Missions with the kids.  I hope that a few of them will get involved with the missions in that area.

Took care of my admin tasks.

We had about 1/4″ of rain today.  Keep it comin’, Lord!

Tim A. Cummins @ 2:54 pm

I went to a board meeting of Communities in Transformation this morning. The other folks on the board are really big deals. I always give the field perspective. My partner is a part of the Chic-Fil-A organization. She’s in charge of this new part of their structure. It very well could have national importance. I hope to be a part of that bigger picture.

After the board meeting I went to catch the last part of the UNITE meeting, but everyone had already left the building. Bahd luck. If you guys ever figure out how to be in more than one place at a time, send me that memo. That would be very helpful!

Finished going through my email.

Called Blue Cross Blue Shield about Ashley’s medical coverage. She turns 19 in a month and will go off our family coverage since she’s not a full time student. Whirlwind will cover her. If she goes back to school next year, she’d go back on the family policy.

Went by the Columns at Lake Ridge today. The manager decided not to have us do a party there. That was a shock to me since we work in 5 of their properties. I could go over his head to his boss who is a long term partner of mine, but I don’t think that’s how to start a relationship with him.

I’ll go over to Azalea in a few minutes to check on the kids and their homework.

I got up too early this morning. I’m tired.

Got home and ran 4 miles.

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:09 pm

One of those “haul stuff around” days.

Not my favorite. But not bad.

I had lunch with a couple of partners today Doug and Jan Kennedy. She’s a great networker and I always get good ideas from her. Also met with her friend Sara who is raising money to do church planting in Scotland. Believe me, that would be a hard mission field. Europe is a very dark place.

After IHOP with my friends, I picked up Jouvens and we took the van over to Chattahoochie Baptist Church on Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta. They had a bunch of the old 6 foot wooden tables that are super heavy and tough as nails. Because they’re so heavy most churches haves stopped using them. They’re great for the missions, they’re just not great to move around.

Jouvens and I loaded up 12 tables and then went way across town to Gwinnett Crossings in Duluth. We dropped off three tables there, two at Adelaide Park and the rest at FBC Doraville. I’ll disperse them later as the need arises—which it always does.

We went by Azalea to help the kids with their homework.  Also went to Office Depot to get supplies for some of the kids-poster boards and construction paper.

Talked with one of my police officer buddies from Chamblee.  He’s looking for a guy he thought I’d know.  I recognized him, but didn’t see him around Azalea that much.

I have a team in town this weekend. I’m giving them the briefing on Thursday morning then introducing them to Jouvens who will be taking the leadership role in showing them around.

K and I plan on taking a few days to get away this weekend. So I have to let my team carry the ball. That’s how they get experience. Ashley will also go by every day, check on them and shoot pictures.

Peace.

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:05 pm

This morning I took the Chrysler Concorde in to have the transmission checked out.  They wanted to make sure that the repair they made last week was all tight.  Nothing leaking.  Looked like everything was AOK.  Should be for the two grand we paid for the job!

I planned on moving tables today, but Jouvens wasn’t available and I can’t lift those heavy things by myself over and over.  A little help REALLY helps.

I bought two new printer/scanner/copiers for the missions at Huntington Terraces and at Adelaide Park.  I had a great visit with Don Devlin the Director of the mission at Adelaide Park.  He’s a salty old Army guy that is rough around the edges buy has a heart of gold.

Went over to the mission and checked on the kids.  They didn’t go to school today so they didn’t have any homework.  Had a good talk with Jouvens and his brothers Ernest and Jimmy.

Came home and ran 4 miles.

It’s about 8pm.  Need to work on my financial report now.

Peace.

Kathy and I went to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church this evening.  We attended the mass for the 28th Sunday.  Part of it was in memory of my mother in law Nell Doverspike.  Afterwards we went to my brother in law’s girlfriend’s house to have a chili party.  It was delicious!

Worked on my yard.  Mowed.  Picked up sticks.  Trimmed hedges. 2 hours of manual labor.

Uploaded about 500 pictures that Ashley took of Miles and of the Impact 360 team.  Still working on editing them.

Tim A. Cummins @ 12:25 am

I worked with my team from Impact 360 today in Chamblee.  They are a “gap year” program for rising college Freshmen.  We worked at Azalea and Highland Gardens hosting a Backyard Bible Club for the kids.  They also helped me clean up the soccer field at Chamblee–hundreds and hundreds of beer bottles.

I took them for a treat to Cafe Itanbul–authentic Turkish cuisine.  Fantastic!

J and I had a great time tonight.  My son is really interested in starting his own business—he’s a web designer.  I think he’s done a fantastic job on the www.whirlwindmissions.org site.

Peace.

Did admin work today.

Ashley finished up the contact information on the maps in our web site. We’ve upgraded the info on the maps substantially. That was a really big job.

Developed a script to use in order to set up appointments with churches. I thought it might help my partners raise funds.

Ran 4 miles this afternoon.

Edited a video for Simonton Baptist Church. Burned the DVD and sent them a copy. Also posted the video on our YouTube channel.

I’ll be working with my college Impact 360 class the next two days.

Ashley and Jesse will come with me tomorrow. I hope J will drive. Good practice for him.

Tim A. Cummins @ 12:22 am

Been working on videos most of today. I had five teams last week that we worked with: Crossroads, FBC Duluth, In His Name Ministry, University of Louisville, KY and Perimeter Church. Awesome!

So today I captured the video on my computer, edited the video and added titles, burned DVDs for each church and for the apartments where they served, compressed the videos so they could be posted on the internet and put them on our YouTube account. Check them out!

Big news of the day was I got to go see my brother Tito and his new baby Samuel at Northside Hospital. Patricia sure does make some beautiful babies! Got to hang out with Jacob their four year old too. I took him for some chicken nuggets at McDonalds. I think I liked the toy better than him. It reminded me of a Rhino Beetle from Kenya.

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:50 pm

I worked on my email disaster today.  I have all the sites changed over that J and I could think of.

I imported 1,924 contacts.  I have to work through them to make sure it’s right.

It is interesting to see which contacts I feel like I really HAVE to let know what’s going on.

I really felt like some of my biggest supporters read this and will contact ME.  It’s happened a couple of times this evening.

Ran 4 miles this morning.  There’s always more mileage . . . .

I had a great time with Jesse this afternoon.  We had lunch together and talked about business and how it relates to relationships.  He got more practical experience driving.  He’ll take his final practical test in a month or so.

Glad I could get a little extra rest today.  Man, I’ve been stressed out.

Peace.
