VA Tech! Grooviness!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:14 pm

Had a great day with my partners from Virginia Tech today! They’ve continued their amazing work by cleaning and painting around FBC Doraville and at the mission at Azalea!

It’s great to see them at work and the mission looking so good!

This afternoon, I went to their mission sites to visit them at work. They did a fantastic job of helping the kids.

After the mission work, Ian and Ruthie North, Jesse and I went to a Meet Up at La Madeleine. We went to hang out with the other Seth Godin fans of his book “Linchpin.” Unfortunately, we were the only ones that showed up even though 13 people had confirmed coming!
t
Fortunately, we had a very amusing group! We had a fun time talking French and bantering wittily.

Working on admin duties now.

K and I are going out of town for a few days. Don’t get no better!

Service! Norths! Azalea!

Tim A. Cummins @ 11:15 pm

We have one of the hardest working teams in town this week from Virginia Tech!

t
v
d

They’ve done an amazing job of helping build a parking lot for our partners working at Pearl Lane apartments.

j

I’ve really been proud of their stellar work.

They also helping paint the mission at Azalea! Sure is nice to have a clean place to work!
b
s

The old man actually stepped in to give them some pointers.
t

Met up with Ian and Ruthie North today and their friend Emily. Even better because I had Ashley with me all day!

i
e
ta

We had a great meeting at Madina. Enjoyed some excellent Somali food.

Had fun at the book store.

Then I took Ian and Ashley over to Gallery 63–home for the Discovery Channel’s reality show “Auction Kings.” I think that show’s a lot of fun.

a
as

I’ve been there before to meet the stars of the show. It was fun to get to see Cindy and Paul again. They’re always super nice to me.
t
They were filming today. Most of you probably know that my background is in the news business for CBS. I knew exactly what was in the shot and just “happened” to look at stuff in the background.
p

Later the Production Assistant had Ian and Ashley and I sign release forms in case they use the video with us in it. It was a fun part of the day!
a
I liked the pictures they shot of us.
i
We dropped Ian off at his apartment complex and Ashley and I went to Azalea to meet up with Kathy and Jesse who were meeting us there.

j
b
j

Kids didn’t have much homework, but we enjoyed listening to them read their practice books.
b
Kathy’s van had a flat this morning. I have a portable pump for just such a problem. I pumped it up and K took it over to Tires Plus to get it repaired. Cost me over a $100. Had to get a new tire. Stupid nails. She actually had nails in three tires. There are just SO many construction trucks where we work. I throw nails out of the road at Azalea every day.

C’est la vie, baby.

K and I watched the season finale of Castle. I recorded it last night. Beckett better not be dead.

f
They did an awesome job at Azalea Place, Highland Gardens, Pearl Lane/Don Juan, Chamblee Heights, Huntington Terraces and Huntington Creek!

t

We took Peter to the MARTA to head to the Airport. He was flying back to Germany. He’ll be missed!
dp

Looking forward to the rest of the week with them!

Like my big banana? We called these “King Kongs” in Kenya!

Rockbridge!

Tim A. Cummins @ 5:37 pm

Had a great time today with my partners at Rockbridge Baptist Church. They are the mother church for Whirlwind Missions!
c
c
a

We had an awesome time with them. And Jesus too!
j
It was extra special for me because BOTH of my kids made a presentation.

Jesse showed pictures of a lot of our kids at Azalea and talked about them.

Ashley told a story about eating with the Bengali community.

They both did great!

I told some stories about people that I love at the mission and my concern for them.

I was happy to see Ann Mitchell there too. Kathy’s sister is awesome!
a

Had Thai food afterwards with Bill and Piper Cordrey.
c

t

Home now working on my admin duties including the Financial Report that’s due tomorrow.

I have the first Summer team start in the morning. Looking forward to working with them!

First time I’ve seen a sign like this!

Podcasts! Outreach! Jammin’!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:40 pm

Fun day! Although my fingers have blisters. . .

Worked on podcasts this morning! Always one of my fun things to do!

Take a listen to this one. It’s awesome! “Imagination is the Ultimate Super Power!” It’s fun!

And then one of my favorite topics: Love! “When Push Comes to Shove, LOVE!” An important podcast that you’ll really enjoy!

Went to Huntington Terraces for lunch to work with our team from Foothill Community Church!
e

They’re a great group! Ashley spoke there a few weeks ago and a bunch of them came to help today!
ff

f
l

They had games, food and loved on the families there. Awesome time!
m

l

I took Ashley out for Malaysian food after the outreach. We were still a bit hungry.
a
a

She’s always more experimental than me. She tried the honey fried squid.

I tried one. I went “hmmm.” Rather than “MMMM!” All those tiny tentacles. . .

I sure liked my Thai Fried Rice better.

Then we went to the city of Stone Mountain for their Bluegrass Festival. I also wanted to take her to the antique store that I like over there.

We had fun looking for interesting things. I bought a Japanese sword that was over 150 years old as well as a Fraternal sword that I thought was cool. Groovy!

You can never have too many sharp pointy objects lying around.

We checked out the Blue Grass music. Great! As is usual for me, I get involved!
t
I have always wanted to play a stand up string base. In fact I saw one last night when Jesse and I went to Fernbank to see the Imax movie “Tornado Alley” which I loved!
tor
So today, I went up and made myself at home with the other musicians.

I asked them, “Can I try the bass?” They said, “Sure! This song’s in G.” I have never played a fretless intrument in my life. Much less one bigger than me! But I’ve played guitar for thousands of hours. I figured, “How different can it be?” So I grabbed it, figured out where the notes where and ROCKED!

Had a lot of fun encouraging the group to “GO for it, baby!” As well as the crowd to clap and sing along.

What a hoot.

But my thumb and middle fingers on my right hand have big ol’ blisters on them now. No pain, no gain.

Came home and enjoyed some time with Jesse. Just been working on my admin duties.

I just heard the blower so I know that Kathy is home now. She’s been out all day long helping her Bengali ladies.

Groovy day, baby!

I love these powerful cumulus clouds!
c

I had a dream that I had a pet owl last night.

Teeth! Shot!

Tim A. Cummins @ 5:07 pm

This morning J and I headed to the dentist! Never my favorite thing to do.
t
We both got good reviews. J had one little cavity. I really like our dentist as he’ll go ahead and fix the problem rather than have to make another appointment to get it done. Hate that.

My teeth were perfecto, baby!

We had BBQ at Crazy Ron’s in Stone Mountain, one of my Food Faves.
r
Love that place! Chopped pork and potato salad. Can’t go wrong!

There’s an antique store I like in Stone Mountain so K and J looked around with me.

I got an antique grape shot from the navy. About 150 years old. A cannon would shoot out a bunch of these at the same time.
g
Bahd luck if you got hit with one of those bad boys. It’s a nice pair with my canonball I got from Chicamauga, GA.

Also got an old plumb bob. Reminds me of my days in construction.

I wanted this old phone, but the guy didn’t have a price tag on it.
p
I thought it be funny to tell people it was my new cell phone.

I liked this bear jaw.
b

And these fossils.
f

I bought Kathy a lemon square for dessert at this German restaurant. Groovy!
r
l
I liked the fountain in front.
f
Reminded me of a horse trough.

I liked this flower.
f

Kathy was riding her bike when we picked her up for lunch. J and I took her back to the bike. Unfortunately, the Model T Fords we saw when we got here had all left. I was hoping to get some shots of those. I love taking pictures of cool cars.

Come to think of it, I like taking pictures, period. As of today, there are 167,021 pictures in our gallery. Ashley has taken almost exactly 50,000.

I took Jesse home than went to Walmart to do the grocery shopping.

Had to take back some shirts that K didn’t like. I hate taking stuff back.
s
I told her I’d end up having to do that. The only thing that made the job palatable was that she wrote me a note saying, “You were right.”

Working on admin duties now. Trying to nail down more of the team assignments as well as editing the maps and contacts page on the web site. It really is amazing the infrastructure that I’ve established over the years. I kind of forget how massive it is until I start looking through it again.

I’m hoping to go to Fernbank tonight to see the Imax film of tornados. Love those! In whirlwind and storm is His way!

Woo Hoo! Mtn Park!

Tim A. Cummins @ 10:24 pm

Such a fun day today! I reckon that’s a recurring motif for me!

Had a great time hanging out with some new friends and some old friends!

J and I met Ryan from FBC Gardendale at Rehoboth BC and took him for a short tour of the International Village and of the missions where his team will be working in June.
r

Lots of goodies to see! These are my favorites: “Galletas de Vanilla.”
v

Jesse likes the plaintanes the best.

p
Met up with friends from FBC Mountain Park who’ll be leading a team to our area this summer.

Ian and Ruthie North also came to the party along with Bayo Otiti and a new friend from Lebanon, Atif.

Scheduled Creativity! Azalea!

Tim A. Cummins @ 7:11 pm

Usually at least once a week I schedule myself to be creative.

One day I set aside to do podcasts. Those recordings are called Verbal Surgery.

I also schedule time to do creative writing. I’ll spend an hour just coming up with motivational/witty statements. I think they’re pretty cool! You might find them fun to read! Take a look at “Tim’s Proverbs”

The whole family helped me at Azalea today! Awesome!

We worked with the kids and then I helped THEM be creative! A couple of days ago I got this 3D sidewalk chalk. The glasses make the blue seem to pop out from the pink.
g
Pretty groovy!
c

Here’s mine. It popped, baby!
d

Came home to work on admin duties now.

When’s the last time you had a kid write this about you?
t

And you wonder why I do this stuff.
j

I saw this on the way home.

s
It didn’t make me feel cooler.

Run! Azalea!

Tim A. Cummins @ 9:49 pm

Had a fun day today!
t
Started out with a run with my sweet ol’ Sugar dawg!
a
Did a little over 3 miles. Sugar didn’t dig it. Sure was glad she’s ok! Got pretty hot later today!

Jesse and I went to Walmart to pick up some supplies. He got a new tent!
t

J and Ashley and I went to the mission to help the kids with their homework.

Watched House and Castle on dvr with Kathy tonight.

Podcast! Azalea!

Tim A. Cummins @ 8:33 pm

I enjoyed working on a podcast this morning!
p

People watching is one of my favorite subjects. I think you’ll really enjoy listening to “Study Others, Know Yourself!”

Should go over 10,000 downloads this month! That’s pretty amazing to me! The feedback I’ve had from listeners has really been touching.

I spent time also going through the team assignment pages for the groups coming. I’m trying to get a handle on which locations the teams will be going. Gets pretty complicated, especially when they come in buses.

Jesse and I went to the mission at Azalea to help the kids with their homework. I was sure it’d be a light day since there’s only a couple of weeks left of school. Wrong o rama. We were swamped!
